Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is charging a whopping $200,000 per speaking gig

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is currently quoting $200,000 and the use of a private jet for domestic speaking engagements, according to seven people with knowledge of the arrangement.

Engagements outside the United States could cost considerably more, these people said.

Haley's lucrative fee propels her into a league populated by U.S. presidents, former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, former first lady Michelle Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

With the Trump Cabinet's revolving door continually spinning, organizations looking for an inside glimpse into the administration have increasing options — but they come with increasingly higher price tags.

Engagements outside the United States could cost considerably more, these people said.

In her October resignation letter, Haley said she would be taking a "step up" into the private sector after leaving the U.N. At the rate quoted for her engagements, just a handful would pay down more than $1 million in outstanding debt that was accrued during her 14 years of public service, according to a public financial disclosure report based on 2017 data.

Haley's spokesperson did not respond to an e-mail, text and call seeking comment.

2,000,000 Troops Are Ready: President of Venezuela’s Constituent Assembly Sends Message To Bolton

President of Venezuela’s Constituent Assembly Diosdado Cabello send a message to US President National Security Adviser John Bolton by showing a note that 2,000,000 Venezuelan troops are ready to repel a possible US invasion.

On January 28th, Bolton held a briefing regarding the situation in Venezuela. During the event, journalists spotted one page on his notebook seen. The contents show something that strongly resembles “Afghanistan” and “5,000 troops to Colombia.” Many media commentators described this as a sign that the US is preparing for a military action in Venezuela. These rumors were further fueled by the formal stance of Washington, which claims that all options are on the table.

Turkey Accuses US-Led Coalition Members Of Supporting Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham In Idlib

Turkey’s Foreign Minister accused members of the US-led coalition of supporting Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in an attempt to sabotage the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement on the governorate of Idlib.

“Certain partners from the coalition support HTS… First, for the termination of the Idlib memorandum. Second, there are countries that are making great efforts to prevent the establishment of a constitutional committee just because we are doing it,” Mevlut Cavusoglu told the Hurriyet newspaper on January 31.

The Turkish minister also claimed that some members of the coalition are paying HTS for violations of the demilitarized zone agreement. This was the first time when a senior Turkish official publicly acknowledged that militants are violating the agreement.

A 15-20km demilitarized zone was supposed to be established within the opposition-held areas around Idlib. Despite the presence of Turkish observation posts there, the efforts to establish the zone have resulted in no significant progress.

“Russians have a joint operation offer. They say we should remove them [HTS militants] from there”, Cavusoglu revealed.

Cavusoglu added that the Turkish military presence in Idlib has encouraged many foreign militants to abandon the radical group. However, their countries are still refusing to take them back.

These remarks coincided with the visit of a Turkish military delegation to Moscow, where several issues related to Syria, including the situation in Idlib, will be discussed.

Turkey’s stand on Idlib appears to be shifting as a result of Russian pressure and HTS’ continued attempts to expand its influence in the areas controlled by Turkish-backed groups.

GOP poised to rebuke Trump

Frustrated Republicans say it’s time for the Senate to reclaim more power over foreign policy and are planning to move a measure Thursday that would be a stunning rebuke to a president of their own party.

GOP lawmakers are deeply concerned over President Trump’s reluctance to listen to his senior military and intelligence advisers, fearing it could erode national security. They say the Senate has lost too much of its constitutional power over shaping the nation’s foreign policy and argue that it’s time to begin clawing some of it back.

“Power over foreign policy has shifted to the executive branch over the last 30 years. Many of us in the Senate want to start taking it back,” said a Republican senator closely allied with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

They plan to send Trump a stern admonishment by voting Thursday afternoon on an amendment sponsored by McConnell warning “the precipitous withdrawal” of U.S. forces from Syria and Afghanistan “could put at risk hard-won gains and United States national security.”

The resolution also expresses a sense of the Senate that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and al Qaeda pose a “continuing threat to the homeland and our allies” and maintain an “ability to operate in Syria and Afghanistan.”

It’s a pointed rebuttal to the claim Trump made on Twitter in December that “we have defeated ISIS in Syria.”

Speaking on the Senate floor, McConnell said his amendment “simply re-emphasizes the expertise and counsel offered by experts who have served presidents of both parties,” a subtle rebuff of Trump’s tweets from earlier in the day mocking his intelligence advisers as “naive.”

Trump stunned Republican senators Wednesday by lashing out at Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA Director Gina Haspel after they contradicted some of his optimistic claims about the threats posed by North Korea and ISIS. The senior intelligence officials also angered Trump by testifying that Iran is in compliance with the nuclear treaty it signed with Western powers under the Obama administration.
