Ice quakes are real but happen when thick formed ice heaves up as a pressure ridge. I live beside a very large lake and we feel them in the house in the winter regularly. Like a mini earthquake, you can feel the pressure wave go through you.

 

They don't cause loud booms. More of a visceral feeling. These booms are something else.
