That is an extremely naive statement. They absolutely would have taken your guns. Why do you think Obama was firing high level military who refused the idea of disarming/ firing on Americans. Sure, it would have ended up starting a civil war, but based on the events they were going to make sure took place, they would have made up a justification to do it.
