I grew up a little south of Detroit. I don't recall which, but I would listen to him on either WCAR or WJBK AM "from the golden spires of the Fisher Building". Late at night I could get a New York (WOR, I think) station as I lay in bed with my transistor radio on my chest. I didn't realize it then, but I was probably listening to skip coming across Lake Erie. CKLW, WKNR and, later, WABX and WRIF (with Arthur Penhallow) got me through high school and a little beyond.
