Good Samaritan Who Paid for Hotels Rooms for Homeless During Polar Vortex Identified

The Good Samaritan who paid for hotel rooms for homeless people in Chicago during the polar vortex has been identified.

The homeless people were camped out in a tent city when one of the propane tanks they were using exploded due to being too close to a space heater.

That’s when volunteers stepped in and offered to pay for hotel rooms for the group, which was reported at over 100 people.

A woman named Candice Payne, 34, kicked off the effort, “impulsively charging 20 hotel rooms on her American Express card after realizing how dangerous this week’s sub-zero temperatures would be for the Chicagoans without homes,” reported CBS Chicago.

Payne said that she posted about paying for the rooms on social media websites. An Instagram post says, “It’s freezing and deadly! I just secured 30 hotel rooms for the homeless. Need help getting them there, tag anyone who has a passenger van I will pay u to help!”

“It’s not much but to get them out the cold, feed them, and provide them with warm clean clothes is a start,” Payne, a real estate investor for 5th Group Realty, said.

That’s when others got involved.

“Maybe they didn’t know how to or where to start to help, so I’m glad that I was able to be that vehicle,” she said.

“This is just regular people trying to help,” she added to the Chicago Tribune, noting that her husband was involved as well. She said that they often pass by the homeless camp, which was near Roosevelt Road and Des Plaines Avenue. “We wanted to get as much of them out of there as possible,” she said.

In total, 60 hotel rooms were paid for at Amber Inn, the only place Payne and her husband could find that would take in the homeless people. A receptionist at the hotel said that the group of approximately 120 people nearly filled the entire inn.

Only one member of the group of homeless people declined the offer. That person went to a Salvation Army warming center instead.

“It was really good to get out of the cold,” Asia Walker, a homeless woman, said.

Another homeless man named Robert who accepted the offer told CBS that Payne was an angel.

“We hear about that on the news and other places but I seen it up close and personal today, and I really want to thank y’all for looking out for our people,” Robert said.

Israeli forces shoot, injure 19 Palestinian protesters in West Bank

Nearly two dozen Palestinians have sustained gunshot wounds when Israeli military forces opened fire at a group of demonstrators participating in a protest rally against the protracted and extremely violent attacks being carried out by the extremist settlers across the occupied West Bank.

Dozens of protesters converged in an open field near al-Mughayyir village, located 27 kilometers northeast of Ramallah, following Friday prayers to express their resentment over repeated attacks by settlers.

Israeli troops then shot live and rubber-coated steel bullets to disperse the non-violent protesters.

At least 15 Palestinians were struck by live bullets, while another four were injured by rubber rounds.

On January 26, a Palestinian man was shot dead and dozens others were wounded during a confrontation with Israeli soldiers and settlers in al-Mughayyir.

Trump vows to forge ‘military response options’ to Russia’s violation of INF accord

Trump said the US would draw up several ‘military response options’ to Moscow’s breach of its INF’s obligations so as to ‘deny Russia any military advantage’

WASHINGTON, February 1. /TASS/. The United States will get down to working on several options regarding a military response to Russia’s violations of its obligations under the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty in order to neutralize Moscow’s advantages, US President Donald Trump said in a statement.

"Tomorrow, the United States will suspend its obligations under the INF Treaty and begin the process of withdrawing from the INF Treaty, which will be completed in six months unless Russia comes back into compliance by destroying all of its violating missiles, launchers, and associated equipment. Our NATO Allies fully support us, because they understand the threat posed by Russia’s violation and the risks to arms control posed by ignoring treaty violations," the statement reads.

"We cannot be the only country in the world unilaterally bound by this treaty, or any other. We will move forward with developing our own military response options and will work with NATO and our other allies and partners to deny Russia any military advantage from its unlawful conduct," Trump said.

"My Administration remains committed to effective arms control that advances United States, allied, and partner security, is verifiable and enforceable, and includes partners that fulfill their obligations. For arms control to effectively contribute to national security, all parties must faithfully implement their obligations. We stand ready to engage with Russia on arms control negotiations that meet these criteria, and, importantly, once that is done, develop, perhaps for the first time ever, an outstanding relationship on economic, trade, political, and military levels," the US President pointed out. "This would be a fantastic thing for Russia and the United States, and would also be great for the world," Trump added.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said on Friday that the US would suspend its obligations under the INF Treaty on February 2.

TV news anchor announces over 90 out of 124 cases of measles in NY “epidemic” are vaccinated

When we report on what a news anchor states or a news source says, it’s always risky. Hence the reason we always put in the headline we are quoting from; you never know, things could change- it’s a chance all journalists take.

Case in point: we couldn’t believe our eyes today when the famous TV anchor, who used to be with CNN then CBS and now has a show on ABC to millions, posted about this story. That’s right, two-time, Emmy Award-winning Sharyl Attkisson posted this report.

Then we saw one of the oldest vaccine non-profits in the country, the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), from Washington, DC share this news as well. It had nearly 700 likes in a few minutes (it appears they shared it from the famous news anchor’s page). So we did an article about her reporting this news on her page and it went viral (no pun intended).

The veteran TV anchor and former CBS news correspondent has covered vaccines for decades now and was one of the first to question Merck’s HPV vaccine Gardasil along with her colleague Katie Couric in a show they did together.

In a Tweet, Attkisson linked the ABC news (on which she has appeared) story as her source:

Krieger: We're All "Just Manipulated Serfs On An Oligarch's Digital Plantation"

By now it’s no longer restricted to individual companies or even to the internet sector. It has spread across a wide range of products, services, and economic sectors, including insurance, retail, healthcare, finance, entertainment, education, transportation, and more, birthing whole new ecosystems of suppliers, producers, customers, market-makers, and market players. Nearly every product or service that begins with the word “smart” or “personalised”, every internet-enabled device, every “digital assistant”, is simply a supply-chain interface for the unobstructed flow of behavioural data on its way to predicting our futures in a surveillance economy.

– From the must read piece: ‘The Goal Is to Automate Us’: Welcome to the Age of Surveillance Capitalism

A lot of my content over the past couple of years has focused on the momentous geopolitical changes I see on the horizon, and this macro perspective reaches two significant conclusions. First, that the planet is moving away from a unipolar world dominated almost entirely by the U.S. toward a more multi-polar world. Second, that this fundamental shift in geopolitical landscape, coupled with what appears to be a forthcoming reckoning with the largest global debt bubble in human history, will lead to a once in a generation reset of the world economy and the global financial system that keeps it functioning.

As has become increasingly clear in recent months, the two primary protagonists in this major historical shift are the U.S. and China. While I’ve speculated about how increased tensions between these two economic giants will likely usher in the end of globalization as we know it (and possibly a bifurcated global economy), I’ve spent less time talking about what the internal situations will look like within individual countries themselves. This is a major oversight because what really matters to Chinese and U.S. citizens ten years from now isn’t which nation has more military bases abroad, but what will everyday life be like for regular people?

In this regard, China and the U.S. both seem to be headed in similar and very dystopian directions when it comes to the freedom-destroying marriage of overbearing government and ubiquitous surveillance technology. I read a couple of excellent articles on this topic over the past week, which forced the issue to the top of my mind. In other words, does it really matter who wins the geopolitical game of risk if “we the people” end up being controlled, surveilled and completely subjugated by the very technology we so eagerly embraced and assumed would make the world a more liberated place just a few years ago?

Everyone reading this is probably aware of the mind-bogglingly creepy and terrifying social credit system being unveiled in China. The first paragraph of a recent must read Wired article, Is Big Tech Merging with Big Brother? Kinda Looks like It, puts the situation into stark terms:

A friend of mine, who runs a large television production company in the car-mad city of Los Angeles, recently noticed that his intern, an aspiring filmmaker from the People’s Republic of China, was walking to work.

When he offered to arrange a swifter mode of transportation, she declined. When he asked why, she explained that she “needed the steps” on her Fitbit to sign in to her social media accounts. If she fell below the right number of steps, it would lower her health and fitness rating, which is part of her social rating, which is monitored by the government. A low social rating could prevent her from working or traveling abroad.
