Virginia Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam apologized in a statement on Friday for a medical school yearbook showing two men — one of them of himself — in blackface and the other in Klu Klux Klan attire. Northam did not state which person he was in the inflammatory photo.
Northam released a statement on Friday admitting to having the photo included in his medical school yearbook. The Virginia Democrat Gov. also admitted to appearing in the photo; however, he did not say whether he was the man in blackface or in Klu Klux Klan attire.

Then Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam decried Republican nominee Ed Gillespie’s “racist rhetoric and fearmongering” in October 2017.
In October, Northam attacked Republican nominee Ed Gillespie over his television and radio ads attacking sanctuary cities and MS-13. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Gillespie’s ads hurt Richmond, Virginia, Latinos, including Alfredo Martinez, who comes from Mexico.
Northam included the Times-Dispatch article and tweeted in October 2017, “VA is an inclusive and diverse community—we won’t put up with Ed Gillespie’s racist rhetoric and fearmongering.”

Brooks: I Was ‘More Appalled’ by Northam’s Abortion Comments Than Yearbook Picture
On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks said he was more upset by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s (D) comments about abortion than the yearbook picture of Northam.
Brooks began by stating, “Well, first, it just shocks you with how appalling it is. 1984, it was not like 1950. And it’s his med school. It’s not high school. It’s not college. This is a full-grown adult. And so, it’s just shocking and appalling that this was the norm, that it was OK to do this.”
He added, “I was a little more appalled by his comments earlier in the week about letting babies die on tables when they’re born in late-term abortions. And that was sort of what got this ball rolling. And so, I would say, these are two events that I find morally incomprehensible.”
