Bananas. Cashmere sweaters. Donald Leu.

Some excerpts from conversations between WJC and Tony Blair 1999 - 2000.

>WJC: ['Al'] ... liked it when he went into Prescott's office and the only decoration was a bowl of bananas ... My staff won't let me talk to you unless I have a banana at hand. I'm sitting here with a banana; it's a big, ugly, brownish one.

///

WJC: Do you want me to buy a cashmere sweater from him with duties?

TB: You don't have to do that or give him bananas.

///

TB: ... Thanks for seeing Donald Leu as well. What it has done is to emphasise to the people that sometimes it is useful to be part of something bigger.

>In 1999, Donald J. Leu, an education professor at Syracuse University and a nationally prominent specialist in reading and Internet technologies, was hired to become the John and Maria Neag Chair in Literacy and Technology. The chair was made possible by the $21 million gift from UConn alumnus Ray Neag and is named in memory of his parents.

>University leadership and philanthropists have supported our work by understanding and believing in the idea that a research university must be engaged in advancing education, and that economic development and social justice is not attainable without a vibrant educational system across the spectrum. Together, we have made strategic investments in people, programs, and technology to accomplish our goals.

Can't find anything on John and Maria Neag, but Duck Duck Go gives a pizza place in CT as an early option, which I thought was interesting. It's about an hour away from Leu's university, and 15 minutes away from another university. It was established in 1990, the owners are registered as the Saulinos.

Check out their FB profile pic though, shameless emphasis mine. There's also heart imagery and a guy dressed as a slice of pepperoni pizza for Halloween.

The pizza place is probably an object lesson in some coincidences being genuinely coincidental.

That's all I've got for now.
