If Northam stays you can keep hammering them with his abortion stance that the VA legislature (R, I think) shot down. Northam ain't touching the abortion issue again. POTUS hammered him already about abortion in a tweet, which is the route they want to go. If any other governors want to put abortion on the table they now have Northam as the poster child for what happens rather than slick Cuomo.

If you have, say, a state that goes 60-40 for Trump but the governor wants to give those electoral votes to Clinton because she won the popular vote, it ain't going to fly. This is only effective when they rig the state count down to a 1 or 2 point difference. Then, every state would be a battleground state. They'll be forced to clean up voter fraud once it gets too obvious that they're rigging.
