Lurker fag and chemical industry fag here, but have some info to clarify about Univar thread in Bread 6401

Univar is an old company, founded in 1924. the reason most anons have not heard of it is that they make chemicals and other intermediates that are sold to other manufacturing companies who make the final consumer product. Also Univar was a private company until June 2014.

On August 8, 1924, George Van Waters and Nat Rogers opened a small firm in Seattle, Washington, USA, buying and selling naval supplies, paint, raw materials and cotton linters. When Van Waters & Rogers entered the laundry supply business, it paved the way for the company’s future in chemicals.

In the 1980s, Univar became North America's largest chemical distributor and sales topped $1 billion

Univar focused on industries that were population-based, such as food, pharmaceuticals, personal care, coatings and energy.

In June 2016, it was announced that Univar had joined the Fortune 500 for the first time

Lurker chemical industry fag here with part 2 about Univar

The anon suggests something is fishy with the company being involved in the food industry:

Check this out…it gets fishier :

Univar has a “food ingredients” division too."

A lot of chemical companies bigger and smaller than Univar make products that go info the food industry (as well as cosmetics, personal care, household cleaners etc). If you look at a food packaging label at ingredients you will usually see and alphabet soup of ingredients (EDTA as an example) and a list of other ingredients that look like they belong in a chemical distributor catalog (acetic acid, propionic acid, propylene glycol, flavor enhancers, texture enhancers, food colors). All of these ingredients are made by chemical companies (in some type of consumer products division) and sold to other manufacturers, or directly to food manufacturers. Search your favorite chemical name and find out all the producers… Attached pic is an example for acetic acid.

Hope this useful to anons.

BAKER: Since the original thread on Univar was notable in Bread 6401 please consider this post and my previous post >>5014570 for inclusion in Notables
