Deadly Attack on American Base in Iraq Foiled

The Iraqi army narrowly foiled a deadly attack on the largest American base in Iraq. In a statement, the Iraqi army said that three Grad rockets with launchers connected to electronic timers were directed at the base.

The Iraqi army managed to defuse the launchers with only 15 minutes left until they would have fired.

The Ain Al-Asad base, where U.S. forces are housed, is located in the central Anbar province. It was the site of a surprise visit by U.S. President Trump the day after Christmas in 2018.

A Kurdish source noted that the rockets were manufactured in Iran. The same type of Grad rockets have been used against Israel in the past by Hezbollah in Lebanon and Fatah in the Palestinian-controlled territories and Hamas and other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Iran boasted that the militias its funds in Iraq, the Popular Mobilization Units (known in Arabic as Hashd al-Sha’abi) stopped a U.S. military patrol from in the city of Mosul, forcing it to turn back and request cover.

Venezuela Confirms Coltan Deposits, $100 Billion in Gold Reserves

The Venezuelan government has confirmed the existence of “significant” coltan deposits south of the Orinoco River, as well as proven gold reserves valued at $100 billion.

Basic Industries and Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz told a press conference that only seven countries in the world have reserves of coltan – a valuable black mineral that combines niobite and tantalite and is used in cell phones and computer chips – in sufficient quantities for export.

Sanz said that “strategic mineral,” also known as “blue gold,” is an irreplaceable material in products such as cellular phones and electromagnetic instruments for aviation and other hi-tech industries.

“Without coltan, there are no cell phones,” the minister said in illustrating the importance of that mineral.

Reserves of coltan and other strategic minerals were located south of the Orinoco River – in eastern Venezuela – as part of an aerial survey carried out with Iranian cooperation.

Sanz did not reveal the quantity of the coltan reserves nor their precise location, but he said that diamond, phosphate, titanium and lead deposits also were found.

He also referred to gold resources and said Venezuela has the world’s largest reserves of that precious metal after South Africa. According to the minister, Venezuela’s potential reserves total some 15,500 tons and its certified reserves are valued at some $100 billion.

Separately, Science and Technology Minister Jesse Chacon, who accompanied Sanz at Friday’s press conference, confirmed that important deposits of kaolinite have been found and are being developed with assistance from Russia.

He also said Russia will offer Venezuela the technological assistance it needs for the treatment of recently discovered uranium deposits.

Chacon, who said uranium will be used for energy production “because oil will run out,” ruled out the possibility of using that mineral for military purposes.

Fleeing terrorists leave behind US & Israeli weapons, ammo and medicine in southwestern Syria

Authorities on Friday found weapons , medicines, and medical equipment, some of which are Israeli and US-made left behind terrorists in the towns of Jabata al-khashab and al-Rafeed in southwestern countryside of Damascus and northern countryside of Quneitra.

A source at the authorities said that the seized weapons included anti-tank missiles , shells, various types of ammo, a number of TOW missiles ,and 23mm and 14.5mm machineguns , in addition to communication devices, US-made engineering equipment used for detonating mines and opening loopholes in minefields, a quantity of medicines , Israeli , Saudi and Turkish-made medical equipment, including sterilization and anesthetics.

WikiLeaks mocks Rachel Maddow's latest Russia scare story as 'opportunistic, xenophobic'

WikiLeaks has called out MSNBC host Rachel Maddow for her most dramatic scaremongering yet: claiming Russia could freeze Americans to death by cutting off their power during a polar vortex.

Maddow, who has been at the forefront of Russiagate hysteria since the 2016 election, told viewers this week that Russia could take out the US' power grid system during the freezing weather snap.

"What would happen if Russia killed the power in Fargo?" Maddow asked, adding, "What would you do if you lost heat, indefinitely, as the act of a foreign power on the same day the temperature in your front yard matched the temperature in Antarctica?"

Maddow's claims were circulated on social media where many mocked her for taking the Russia scaremongering to the extreme.
