Pity the children. Starving to death, dying of curable diseases, sold to sexual predators or simply abandoned, youngsters are paying a terrible price for Venezuela's failed socialist experiment.

More than one in seven children are currently suffering from malnutrition as their hard-working parents' salaries no longer cover the soaring cost of everyday living.

Common curable diseases – measles, diphtheria, and rotavirus diarrhea – which had been almost eradicated from the oil-rich state are now killing children in huge numbers. Pneumonia is picking off those too weak to fight.

Desperate mothers are selling their daughters' young bodies for sex to buy food. Other poverty-stricken parents abandoned their children in the street to fight for themselves

Venezuela was once the richest country in Latin America,' Dr Huniades Urbina, a director of Caracas' main children's hospital, told MailOnline.

'Patients would come to Caracas because we could provide the best care in the region. Now we can't even feed the patients.'

The politically left filmmaker also warned that moderates should 'stop being moderate' and that 'there's no middle ground anymore'

Moore also said that for the 2020 presidential election that Democrats should be thinking about who can 'crush' Donald Trump, not just do better than him

The documentary filmmaker noted for his liberal political stance made it clear that he wished the constitutional age restriction for those who could serve as president could be rescinded for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in time for 2020.

Michael Moore stated that the most important factor for Democratic voters should be 'who can crush Trump' after he was prompted by Ali Velshi on MSNBC's The Last Word regarding the declared field of candidates.

'It's too bad you have to be 35 to be president,' Moore said. 'We put that in the constitution, the Founding Fathers, because people died at 38 or 40 back then. Y'know, we need to lower that. If that was lowered to 30 …'

After Moore left that hanging, Velshi asks him if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is where he was going with that train of thought. Moore points out that if the restriction was lower now, she could be running for 2020.
