It occurred to me recently (as a software engineer) that the bible is the complicated instruction manual, and Jesus is the concrete example that makes the penny drop.

I still don't understand why he had to die though.

I suspect it's a bit more than 25 years, but I take your point.

I am/was a hardcore Richard Dawkins fan, but he doesn't address the morality issue much. I'm sure he'd take rational non-religious line though.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this guy seems to be coming from the jewish angle. I thought jews didn't believe that Jesus was the messiah.

He died to redeem mankind - I can't make any sense of that. Not your fault - I've never heard a good explanation of the idea.

This shows int'l border movements over time.

It's interesting to think about what every change would have entailed - think death and destruction.

Right now I'm preoccupied with morality and how we came to the rape/torture/murder of children.

By geographic coincidence SA has become hugely wealthy from oil but their culture is in some ways degenerate. Maybe sometimes there is justification in taking it.

I'm not American for what it's worth - I'm near the center of the map.

I've despised US over the last 40ish years for what they've done, but Trump may be a new hope. US was controlled by the IC, who were controlled by big money.

Yeah I've been around for a while and I get that.

What I don't get is the degeneracy required to override one of our most basic instincts - to protect children (and women).

My original point was 'do we need religion (christianity)' to get back to decency?

I suppose what you're describing here is a 2000 year-old cultural meme (in the Dawkins sense).
