>It occurred to me recently (as a software engineer) that the bible is the complicated instruction manual, and Jesus is the concrete example that makes the penny drop.
Am scientist, have studied bible from this angle, it fits for me too.
The idea of why had to die is hard to understand. There is an angle that it has to do with laws of the universe that God wrote, and can't be broken. Bc fallen angels came here fucking with us, was impossible for us not to have natural consequences to our mistakes under that temptation/abuse destroy us. If Jesus was able to pay those consequences, universal law still satisfied and we're not destroyed. There are detailed studies of how the "cheat" essential works, too much to go into here, not covered in mainstream bible study at all.
>Yeah evil on this scale can really cause you to re-evaluate everything.
>If it's not hard-coded where does it come from?
This was also the angle that led me to evaluate bible as instructions for reality. The answer is the evil comes from fallen angels. They mated with humans and their line is evil af. (Genesis ch 6). It's why what's said of us is that "We're not the authors of sin." We don't devise this kind of evil, would never occur to us. What we do is give into to temptation. Satan (and his children) do that tempting – they pander to our basest natures.
>What I don't get is the degeneracy required to override one of our most basic instincts - to protect children (and women).
Bible calls this a "seared conscience." Meaning, our ability to connect with empathy/morals can be physically damaged and no longer function. When it does, spirit of God can't take its seat in there (we are "the temple") and the spirits of the above fallen angels and their children can.
>that psychopathy is the problem.
small percentage born broken, most get that way from early childhood abuse. breaks the brain.
