AI Deep Learning ‘Godfather’ Yoshua Bengio Alarmed Over Use In China To Dominate Society

Yoshua Bengio, a Canadian computer scientist who helped pioneer the techniques underpinning much of the current excitement around artificial intelligence, is worried about China’s use of AI for surveillance and political control.

Bengio, who is also a co-founder of Montreal-based AI software company Element AI, said he was concerned about the technology he helped create being used for controlling people’s behavior and influencing their minds.

“This is the 1984 Big Brother scenario,” he said in an interview. “I think it’s becoming more and more scary.”

Bengio, a professor at the University of Montreal, is considered one of the three “godfathers” of deep learning, along with Yann LeCun and Geoff Hinton. It’s a technology that uses neural networks — a kind of software loosely based on aspects of the human brain — to make predictions based on data. It’s responsible for recent advances in facial recognition, natural language processing, translation, and recommendation algorithms

Ohio and Tennessee – AT&T Plans to Fry You with 5G

5G already has a bad track record of making people and animals sick. This was reported last summer after it was installed in New York City. Last fall, the first 5G court case was won in England after people became sick and women delivered stillborn babies after it was installed inside street lamps.

A growing number of Americans – including doctors, environmentalists, tribal groups, and elected officials (1, 2) have been taking action to stop 5G installation. Last February, some citizens were interviewed on the Dr. Oz show regarding their concerns. Over the last few months, more elected officials started increasing their efforts to overturn federal legislation which eliminated municipal control over installation. See 1, 2.

Unfortunately, some states already passed legislation which eliminated municipal control over 4G and 5G small cell installation – including Ohio. This is why it’s not surprising that AT&T just announced installing more harmful 5G in Ohio and also Tennessee. The company also announced that they plan to eventually replace all landline broadband with it as well.

A California jury recently awarded $289 million in damages (later reduced to $78 million) to a former groundskeeper, who claimed the weed killer glyphosate caused his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Monsanto deliberately or negligently failed to warn him adequately about the chemical’s cancer risks.

The case is on appeal, and a second trial will soon begin before U.S. District Court Judge Vince Chhabria, who himself has 620 more glyphosate cases on his docket. Overall, more than 9,300 additional cases are in the works against Monsanto and its new owner, Bayer—and personal injury mass-tort law firms are trolling for more alleged victims. “If you were ever exposed to glyphosate and now have cancer, you may be entitled to damages. Call us now,” their print, radio and television ads proclaim.

Taliban to join Moscow talks without Afghan government officials

The Taliban says it will attend what it calls “intra-Afghan” talks in Moscow designed to bring together prominent Afghan figures, including former President Hamid Karzai, opposition figures, and tribal elders — but no government officials.

The meeting is due to start on February 5 and last for two days. The Moscow-based Council of Afghan Society, an organization of the Afghan diaspora in Russia, said in a statement issued in Kabul on February 4 that it was the organizer of the meeting.

The Russian government has denied organizing the meeting, while the United States has made no comments so far about it.

It comes amid a renewed push aimed at resolving Afghanistan’s 17-year war, a process that has accelerated since the appointment in September of Zalmay Khalilzad as U.S. peace envoy.
