>But the way most of us define good and evil is very "human." Good are the things which benefit and please us; bad are the things which displease us, and evil are the things which seem to harass us.
this is only because the avergae, well educated american/westerner is a fucking idiot when it comes to this particular little issue.
like the idea that those things that seem to harass us are evil. i do agree with anon that most or many people are attracted to definitions like this. the problem is not that the definition is wrong; most philosophical shit that gets bandied about is wrong. the problem is that it is obviously and completely stupid. it is wrong in a way that all reasonably educated and intelligent people should just be able to see.
i mean…we all fucking know that not everything is what it seems. so step 1 is to just not accept (nearly) any argument of the form x seems S to me, therefore x is in fact S. this is generally a very poor argument schema. second, that evil harasses. well, my fucking conscience harasses me all fucking day. thing never fucking shuts up. therefore my conscience is evil? again, a bit of thought and analysis and it becomes obvious that this is a poor definition.
not intended as an attack on anon. the whole fucking world is shot through with idiot positions that seem true. the questions is how and why?
answer: (((them))).
