Many years ago, my son attended a private school in NY. Just outside the sleepy town of Hancock (an impoverished, desolate place), lies a community of Islamists. At the end of Main Street is a sign announcing the community and it is clear the site is not open to the public.
Driving thru the area on many occasions, it often crossed my mind what went on behind the fences and forests beyond the entrance. According to reports, the compound is home to over 100 (does that mean 1,000 or more?) Islamists who have retreated from Brooklyn out of fear of racial biases. It is said to comprise nearly 500 acres and contain homes and even a grocery store.
The towns folk share enumerable stories of their children being bullied and crimes against the community by the inhabitants of the secluded encampment.
What bothered me most was the fact that the location is very close to the head-waters of the water supply to the city of New York. My family often discussed this group and their access to the water supply and how our government could allow this to happen.

YES! Stayed there a lot- visited son in skool there from out-of-state.
Creepy x 10. The pool area was somethin. Outdated, dark, YUGE hot tub, weird tile, enclosed sauna area.
The whole place is creepy AF. Long past its hayday, but even 20 yrs ago, there was a rave club party every night in a dank basement-type area. Up-scale folks.
Just seemed out of place for when it was built. Little shitty town now, why such a resort back then?
