RNC Requests Texas Bar ‘Discipline’ Warren Over Registering as an ‘American Indian’

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel filed a complaint asking that the Texas state bar discipline Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) for "lying" on her registration in 1986 when she said her race was "American Indian." "Attorney Warren should be disciplined for lying and failing to correct a misrepresentation she made on her Texas Bar registration card," McDaniel wrote.

McDaniel reproduced sections of the Texas Disciplinary Rules Of Professional Conduct to emphasize her claim. These rules state that an applicant to the bar shall not "knowingly make a false statement of material fact" or "fail to correct a misapprehension known by the person to have arisen in the matter, or knowingly fail to respond to a lawful demand for information from an admission, reinstatement, or disciplinary authority."

McDaniel also cited sections of the rules regarding "good moral character": Good moral character is a functional assessment of character and fitness of a prospective lawyer. The purpose of requiring an Applicant to possess present good moral character is to exclude from the practice of law those persons possessing character traits that are likely to result in injury to future clients, in the obstruction of the administration of justice, or in a violation of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct. These character traits usually involve either dishonesty or lack of trustworthiness in carrying out responsibilities.

According to McDaniel, since Warren has not corrected her statement to the state of Texas explaining that she is not a Native American, she "should be disciplined for her three decades of untruthfulness."

The Washington Post acquired on Monday a copy of Warren’s Texas Bar registration card, showing that in 1986, Warren called herself "American Indian" on the section titled "Race." Warren has faced criticism over her claims of a Native American background for years and could only ever cite family lore for proof. In 2018, she released a DNA test showing that she had a Native American ancestor six to 10 generations ago, meaning she could be as little as 1/1,024th Native ancestry.

U.S. to Pay Out New Reparations for Holocaust

The State Department announced on Wednesday that additional reparation payments would be made to victims of the Holocaust as part of its claims program covering in part Jewish people who were deported by France during World War II.

"Within the next few days, all individuals whose claims were previously approved will receive a letter from the Department notifying them that they will receive an additional payment of 97 percent of their prior approved claim amount," the State Department said. "This amount is based on the funds remaining for approved claims." "While no payment can provide complete justice for all who were impacted by deportation from France, we hope those affected by one of history's darkest eras will receive some additional relief from these further payments," the U.S. government said. "The Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser, through its International Claims and Investment Disputes Office, has administered the Holocaust Deportation Claims Program since its inception."

The reparations program was established by the United States with France under agreements relating to the deportation of Jews by the French government during the Holocaust. France provided $60 million to the United States to distribute to Holocaust survivors and their living families under the agreement. Initial payments to survivors included $204,000 for those who survived their deportation, $51,000 to living surviving spouses or those deported, and a pro rata amount if the individual died after 1948. "Payments to date on approved claims total $30,028,500," according to the State Department. "With the additional payment of 97 percent of their prior approved claim amount, living survivors would receive in total $401,880; living surviving spouses would receive up to $100,470; and heirs of survivors and surviving spouses would receive a portion of these amounts."

I believe it indeed does. I also remember that she used this same information on her college applications…which..pushed someone else out the door who was truly eligible, wonder if there's additional penalties for that.
