Tesla's "free electricity" is a bit like free healthcare. Someone still has play for it (eventually, you).

He didn't mean that he found a way around the First Law of Thermodynamics. He just meant that no one can meter energy transmitted as wave through free space.

>It's like socialist electricity.

Exactly.

The point of confusion comes from Tesla also patenting an entirely unrelated invention to harvest a very tiny amount of atmospheric electricity that does exist. But it's nowhere near enough to do anything useful with (except for maybe power a small radio receiver). Related vid is a modern implementation.

>energy imparted to the earth via the solar wind… the main factor behind lightning's charge.

Thunderstorm updrafts. Snow being blown upwards, heavier ice falling downwards. Friction. Static electricity. This is 9th grade science.

>Zenneck wave… they think they've escaped the negative connotations of a 'crackpot'

That promotes them from 'crackpot' to 'quasi- con artist'. Correct terminology indicated that they know what they are talking about. But they will never get to even 0.1% efficiency that way and they know it.
