The swing-state of Virginia has been rocked by a series of high-level political scandals in recent days; throwing local leadership into a total political crisis as the government’s third high-ranking official admitted to wearing “blackface” at a college party in the 1980s.

“Governor Ralph Northam was already fighting for his political life over a racist photo from his 1984 medical school yearbook that emerged last week, and the lieutenant governor sought on Wednesday to fend off allegations of sexual misconduct,” writes Reuters.

“Attorney General Mark Herring, 57, who has expressed gubernatorial ambitions and called four days ago for Northam to resign, admitted in a statement he donned brown face paint at a party in 1980 to impersonate a rapper,” adds the report.

The news comes as Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax -who would replace Northam should he decide to step-down- denied allegations of sexual assault during the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

“I cannot believe, given my obvious distress, that Mr. Fairfax thought this forced sexual act was consensual,” said a statement released by Dr. Vanessa Tyson.

William Barr's expansive views of presidential power, including that sitting presidents cannot be indicted, combined with his refusal to commit to make the Mueller report public make it clear why he’s not the right person to lead the Justice Dept.
