Public cuddling is a crime under the extreme conservative laws in Aceh, based on a strict regional interpretation of sharia.

Hundreds have been punished since the rule was introduced in the area in 2005.

The girl, 18, who was dressed in a white hijab, closed her eyes as she waited for the bamboo cane to strike.

Why Are So Many Democrats Supporting Or Quiet On Late-Term Abortion? They Owe A Lot To Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood, a taxpayer-funded reproductive healthcare group, reportedly spent nearly $6.5 million electing Democrats and targeting Republicans for defeat in the 2018 midterm elections.

According to data released by Open Secrets through an examination of Federation Election Commission records, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund together with Planned Parenthood Votes have become integral to Democratic electoral plans.

Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen was a guest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at this week’s State of the Union (SOTU) address. The former leader of the organization — which helps conduct and promote abortions — has praised Pelosi on a number of occasions, saying in November that she is “the reason” the U.S. has “access to abortion rights.”

DOJ, ICE Recognize International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

February 6 marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. The FBI, the Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section (HRSP) of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), all members of the Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center (HRVWCC), join U.S. and foreign government partners, non-governmental organizations and local communities to call for the eradication of the practice.

Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a federal crime, and any involvement in committing this crime is a serious human rights violation, which may result in imprisonment and potential removal from the United States. Individuals suspected of FGM/C, including sending girls overseas to be cut, may be investigated by the HRVWCC and prosecuted accordingly.

The elimination of FGM/C has broad implications for the health and human rights of women and girls, as well as societies at large. This day serves as an opportunity to reflect on victims who have suffered from female genital mutilation/cutting, including many women and girls who have died or suffered lifelong health complications from the practice. The day also renews a global commitment to the health and well-being of all women, girls and communities by eliminating the practice.

The rise and rise of the German inspired EU superstate

Prime Minister May's Brexit deal is even more flawed than one might presume. It is not just about the Irish backstop issue. German inspired plans for an EU army inside a European superstate should worry everyone who fears the consequences of a half-baked Brexit

With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, the dominance of Germany and the goals of a European Superstate are becoming more and more prominent.

Throughout the negotiations over the Withdrawal Agreement, time and time again we witnessed German officials commanding EU Member States, notably Spain and France, not to disrupt the Brexit negotiations by making disproportionate demands such as on shared rule of Gibraltar and fishing rights.

These negotiations have shown who is really in charge of the EU.

In recent weeks, we have seen an even more concerning issue arising, that of Germany attempting to recruit foreign citizens into its own army. There is even the suggestion of some British troops potentially ending up under German command. This raises the question of whether Germany is attempting to take an enlarged role in military and security issues, using their control over the EU as the means to do this.

What is going on?

Germany, having ended conscription in 2011, and with an aging population, is now suffering from a chronic shortage of specialist officers within its armed forces. With defence spending currently at 1.2% of GDP they sit far below NATO's recommended 2% minimum.

Instead of increasing funding to recruit from within Germany, the German Defence Ministry has suggested they will seek to fill over 20,000 vacancies with soldiers and citizens from other EU countries.

Homeschoolers: Guilty Until Proven Innocent?

My eight-year-old daughter and I recently read about the Salem Witch Trials. She had heard about Salem from a friend who visited the nearby town during its popular Halloween festivities, and she was curious about the witches. We went to the library to get some books on the topic of how 20 innocent people were put to death for “witchcraft” in 1692, with scores more accused and jailed.

What struck me most about revisiting the Salem Witch Trials with my children was the fact that these English Puritans who had recently settled in Massachusetts Bay Colony had no presumption of innocence. Those accused of a crime at the time, both in the New World and elsewhere, were guilty until proven innocent. The presumption of innocence in trials, with court defenders and impartial juries, would take centuries to catch on. The phrase “innocent until proven guilty” was coined by an English lawyer in 1791, but even then it took a long while to become the legal precedent we all now take for granted.
