There is something about how dates were written but more to do with different dating systems. Alexandria dated from the time of Alexander the Great. Spain dated from the time around Julius Caesar, for a long time Rome dated from the "foundation of the city", most peoples actually dated by regnal years of their kings or some other important event.
We're still in Pisces. Pretty clear from Ptolemy's star boundaries and Geminos' calculations. Modern star charts have actually moved Ptolemy's sign boundaries by about 5 degrees. Aquarius would be several hundred years away still.
Maya 2012 is based on an entirely different system and is not my area of study, so I have no idea.
