Vatican to rule next week on defrocking of disgraced U.S. cardinal: sources

 

In July, McCarrick, 88, became the first Catholic prelate in nearly 100 years to lose the title of cardinal. The allegations against him date back to decades ago when he was still rising to the top of the U.S. Church hierarchy.

 

McCarrick, who rose to be a power broker in the American Church as Archbishop of Washington, D.C. from 2001 to 2006, is living in seclusion in a remote friary in Kansas. He has responded publicly to only one of the allegations, saying he has “absolutely no recollection” of an alleged case of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old boy more than 50 years ago. He has not responded publicly to separate allegations by several priests and ex-priests who have come forward alleging he used his authority to coerce them to sleep with him when they were adult seminarians studying for the priesthood.

How YouTube Helped Spread Dark Hoaxes About Ruth Bader Ginsburg

 

Users pushed disinformation about the liberal justice’s absence during State of the Union broadcasts.

 

It’s unclear if there was any sort of coordinated effort to push Ginsburg conspiracies alongside State of the Union livestreams. In the comments surrounding the January 28 8chan message board post that started a hoax about Ginsburg being in a coma, posters loosely suggest working to make it go viral.

 

“We should probably start meme’ing that she is dead,” one user wrote. Another suggested that “Maybe we can blow up twitter with this and then they have to come out with the truth.”

 

Alongside an image bearing a fabricated quote from Ginsburg saying she never met a non-Jew she liked, another poster wrote some advice: “Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Meme it anyway.”

DEFENCE MINISTRY STAFF ORDERED TO DELETE HUAWEI APP FROM PHONES

 

The Czech Ministry of Defence has ordered employees to remove the AirWatch app from service mobile phones made by China’s Huawei, iRozhlas. reported. It is the first step taken by the ministry following a alert from the Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency over the potential danger of using Huawei products.

 

The Chinese telecoms giant has threatened to take the Czech Republic to court if cyber watchdog agency does not rescind the warning.

 

Some 160 organisations comprising the country’s critical infrastructure have been ordered to review their usage of software and hardware made by Huawei and another Chinese company, ZTE.
