Democrats are panicking over Trump’s upcoming visit to the US/Mexico border in Texas, and they’re sending in their superboy, Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, to lead a counter rally against border wall security.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Beto O’Rourke will lead a march though his hometown of El Paso, Texas, to protest a border wall at the same time President Donald Trump will be holding a rally there to promote it.

O’Rourke is teaming with dozens of civic and human rights organizations for a Monday evening event he says will counter the spreading of “lies and a false narrative about the U.S.-Mexico border.”

Oddly, AP doesn’t mention who the “dozens of civic and human rights organizations” are, likely meaning they contain some pretty sketchy groups.

Central bank-issued digital currency may undermine financial stability: report

Digital currency authorized by the central bank may have a negative impact on the South Korean financial system, causing a liquidity shortage and pushing up interest rates, a report said Thursday.

Recently, central banks around the world initiated a global discussion on the prospects for the introduction of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), referring to a form of fiat money that is issued by central banks and governments.

The CBDC is designed to have the same functions as hard currency in terms of being a medium of exchange and a store of value.

According to the report published by the Bank of Korea (BOK), the introduction of a CBDC will replace demand deposits held by local commercial banks as people think the BOK-backed CBDC is far safer.

What Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Doesn't Understand about Socialism

G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936) and H. L. Mencken (1880-1956) were near contemporaries, but they were not kindred souls. One was an Englishman; the other an American. One was a Catholic Christian; the other a lifelong agnostic. One dubbed himself a distributist (as opposed to a capitalist or a socialist), while the other was an unabashed libertarian, who defended capitalism and abhorred socialism.

But when it came to a subject that is very much the rage today, thanks to individuals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, Chesterton and Mencken were essentially on the same page. That subject was socialism, or rather, Democratic Socialism.

The problems with socialism should be obvious, given its historic failures. The problem with democratic socialism may be less obvious, but no less fatal. Once in power, democratic socialists cease to be democratic.

“Not so!” some say, while pointing to the governments of western Europe. “Not so,” I respond, while pointing out that members of the European Union are capitalist countries with large welfare state components. Of course, those components are slowly strangling these countries, but that’s a story for another day.

Marines raid water park in urban-assault training held in Hawaii for first time

On a typical day, thrill-seekers slide the likes of Tornado, Volcano Express and Big Kahuna at the Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii water park in suburban Honolulu.

But Tuesday night after visitors had left for the day, the deserted 25-acre park was the scene of a mock raid by Marines and sailors with the Okinawa-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, joined by local FBI agents and officers with the Honolulu Police Department.

The Maritime Raid Force – composed of roughly two Marine Corps platoons and almost a dozen FBI agents – stealthily breached the meeting site of a “high-value target,” capturing a quarry they’d hunted for days.

Marine and FBI snipers atop the towering Tornado ride fired live rounds into an enemy silhouette target placed in the center of the park – four-out-of-four shots to the head.

The raid concluded an 11-day Realistic Urban Training Exercise, parts of which were held at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Barbers Point Harbor, Dillingham Airfield and Dogs of War Airsoft Park and Proshop, which provides players with military simulation settings using BB-guns.

VIDEO: Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach takes part in massive national security training drill

Increased traffic, gate closures and restricted boat access through Anaheim Bay can be expected over the next two weeks while personnel at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station participate in a nationwide security exercise.

The exercise, called Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2019, started Monday, Feb. 4, and continues through Feb. 15. It is the Navy’s largest security exercise of the year. Training includes a wide range of drills related to potential security threats.

“Residents may also see increased military and civilian law enforcement activity associated with the exercise, and the station’s ‘Giant Voice’ mass notification loudspeaker system may be used,” said Gregg Smith, spokesman for the Seal Beach base.

Training includes tactical drills in the field focusing on incidents such as an active shooter, attempts to penetrate base entry points or defending against small boat attacks. Navy personnel work on the base’s command, control and communications capabilities and the emergency operations center. They will also drill on how to best bring the base back to full operation following a security incident

Algeria’s ruling FLN picks Bouteflika as presidential candidate

ALGIERS (Reuters) - Algeria's ruling party FLN has picked President Abdelaziz Bouteflika as its candidate for the April 18 presidential election, party leader Moad Bouchareb said on Saturday.

Bouteflika, 81, who has been in office since 1999 but has been seen in public only rarely since suffering a stroke in 2013 that confined him to a wheelchair, is likely to win a fifth term as the Algerian opposition remains weak and fragmented.

He will still need to make a formal announcement, probably in a letter that will be read on his behalf, before March 3.

"We at the FLN we have decided to pick Bouteflika as our candidate for the April presidential election. Let's be ready for the campaign," Bouchareb told about 2,000 supporters at a sports stadium in Algiers.

"We have chosen him because we need continuity and stability," he added.

The Los Angeles Veterans Affairs (VA) facility that illegally rents its sprawling grounds to institutions that don’t serve veterans just evicted several groups dedicated to veterans, including a nonprofit that for decades has comforted dying vets and another that helps those who are disabled. While the VA gave the volunteer organizations the boot without offering an explanation, it continues housing a parking lot for nearby upscale shops, a university baseball stadium, a dog park for the professional dog walkers of affluent residents, and athletic fields for a fancy prep school.

It marks the latest of several scandals involving the misuse of this VA property, where a top official pleaded guilty to multiple felonies last year for taking bribes from a parking lot operator that defrauded the agency out of millions.

Why would seasoned politicians who clearly believe in walls to protect themselves, and who in the past have been loudly outspoken about our nation’s desperate need for a wall for our protection, suddenly be so adamant about NOT having a wall? Politicians who seem to all be mysteriously multi millionaires who were far from that status when they were elected. Politicians who now hysterically and illogically say our borders don’t need walls?

Russian soldier killed by Turkish-backed rebels in Hama

A member of the Russian Armed Forces has been killed in Syria in the line of duty, authorities from the Tikhoretsky District of southern Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, where the serviceman lived, said in a statement.

According to the statement, the deceased service member has been identified as Maxim Pletnev.

“Since 2012, he served in the airborne forces of the Russian Armed Forces… On January 31, 2019, [Pletnev], aged 25, was killed in the line of duty”, the authorities said in a statement.

The details about Pletnev’s death in Syria have also been published on a website that posts information about soldiers who served in the military of Russia, the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire.

Germany's lower house of parliament on Friday approved government plans to join the military campaign against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) in Syria.

Of the 598 politicians who took part in the vote, 445 voted for, 146 against and seven abstained.

The mission will include sending six Tornado reconnaissance jets, a frigate to help protect the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, refuelling aircraft and up to 1,200 military personnel.
