You are very correct in your evaluation of the Pharisees and Jesus' response. However, you seem to suggest Moses was one of the good guys. He was actually one of the worst of the Pharisees and whenever Jesus reversed executive orders and criticized Old Testament laws, it was Moses he was referring to. Jesus was the antidote to the Old Testament God. Jesus was the introduction of a new ideology called Yahwism. Here is a partial resume of the Old Testament God that kept Moses in power.
•
Discourages knowing the difference between good and evil, and those who do are ostracized and purged. Yahwists endeavoring to study “the tree of life” would have been particularly annoying and were subjected to a great deal of persecution.
•
Creates and uses weapons of mass destruction.
•
Separates out the “chosen people” who are given great power in warfare, and usually great wealth, but often wreaks a flood of death, destruction and economic chaos on those not “chosen”.
•
Is obsessed with taxation and the accumulation of wealth such as gold and silver, and encourages theft by the “chosen”, which is justified through elitism.
•
Cultural norms are turned into written “Laws”, which are passed down from high and inaccessible places, and then “carved into stone”. The laws are now untouchable under penalty of death (in ark). The laws are then used by corrupt judges to “witness against the people” when it is convenient to enforce loyalty, instill fear, or to increase dependency.
•
Creates a system of punishment consisting of threats, fines, banishment, or death for lack of loyalty.
•
Has the same iniquities as man… jealousy, fits of rage, murderous tendencies, greed, etc., for which it gets a pass while dealing out harsh punishments for mere “mortals” (citizens) for the same behavior.
•
Allows killing and thievery, but only if you have permission from God.
•
Always points to the utopian “promised land” that either doesn’t exist or is stolen from others.
•
Requires that the people constantly make sacrifices and pay tribute to the kings or priests or other insiders who become very wealthy and achieve high status at the expense of the rest of the population.
•
Demands loyalty adequate to be willing to sacrifice future generations.
•
Promotes nepotism, cronyism, and a strong centralized authority figure.
•
Eventually requires a large and elaborate temple to live in, preferably with a large concentration of wealth and ostentation, which cannot be entered except by designated insiders.
•
Actively encourages identity politics to divide the people through such methods as job description, birthright, clan, tribe, nation states, class, etc., rather than culture. Once the people are divided politically they can be turned against each other to impose Statism.
•
Actively instigates warfare and genocide, and often targets women and children.
•
Creates “manna” that is used to create dependency, and which is used for economic manipulation, such as wealth redistribution, to maintain a loyal base of support.
•
Protects loyalists, even though they may be criminal in nature.
•
Is praised almost exclusively by those who are authority figures. These would include warlords, tribal leaders, kings, judges, bureaucrats, high ranking clergy, etc. that benefit directly from Statism.
•
Is a direct reflection of a culture we create for ourselves through allowing Statist manipulation to exist, which forces us out of Eden in return for temporary benefits and promises.
The Yahwism promoted by Jesus is what we now call non Statsm.
