Trump rips ‘vicious’ Dems after fiery hearing with acting AG

From The Hill

President Trump on Saturday ripped congressional Democrats after a tense House hearing with acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker the previous day.

Whitaker appeared in front of the House Judiciary Committee for nearly six hours Friday, where he was grilled by Democrats about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and other topics. He repeatedly refused to discuss his conversations with Trump, infuriating Democrats.

“The Democrats in Congress yesterday were vicious and totally showed their cards for everyone to see. When the Republicans had the Majority they never acted with such hatred and scorn!” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.

Here are the 7 most disastrous moments from acting AG Matthew Whitaker’s congressional testimony

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, who was dubiously appointed to his position by President Donald Trump outside the normal Justice Department order of succession and without being confirmed by the Senate, testified before Congress Friday in a heated performance that showed the gaping chasm between the House of Representatives and the executive branch.

He was combative, dismissive, contemptuous and condescending throughout the hearing as Democrats tried to question him. He often used blatantly fillibuster tactics to avoid answering questions, such as repeating the questions, delving into meaningless asides, repeating rote answers, and avoiding direct inquiries. On many serious topics, Whitaker outright refused to answer.

1. Whitaker had a callous response to Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) pleaded for him to take responsibility for the immigrant families under Justice Department policy.

2. He became combative when confronted with his dubious past.

3. Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) confronted Whitaker with his refusal to follow the advice of ethics officials to recuse from overseeing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation — and his only answer was that “it was my decision to make.”

4. Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) challenged Whitaker to name any Republicans his ethics watchdog group filed complaints against — but he couldn’t list one.

5. Rep. Shiela Jackson-Lee (D-NY) scolded Whitaker for “joking” about her question time.

6. Whitaker and Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) fanned the flames of baseless conspiracy theories about Roger Stone’s arrest.

7. In a completely disrespectful comment, Whitaker told Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) that his time was up — causing gasps from observers — even as he had time to answer the question.

Was Matthew Whitaker disrespectful in his Congressional hearing?

With days left before the Senate votes to confirm his successor William Barr, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker was called in to answer questions from the House Judiciary Committee. Whitaker was asked about topics ranging from forced family separations at to the border to the continuation of the Mueller investigation. Yet Whitaker seemed at best dismissive and at worst downright disrespectful. Some could argue he answered the questions in a professional manner. What do you think?

Anon Opinion:

They are terrified of Whitaker, he is their Undertaker.

On top of that, he looks like he is made of grit and muscle, and he has some stylish modern turquoise reading glasses, showing his soft side to the ladies, and maybe a nod to the lady anons.

James Clapper Rips ‘Truly Cringeworthy’ Whitaker Testimony: It Was ‘Amateur Hour’

“He was terrible and obviously in over his head.”

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper appeared stunned by acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker’s hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on Friday, bashing his testimony as virtually worthless.

In a CNN interview that evening, Clapper told the network’s Don Lemon that Whitaker’s remarks on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election weren’t all that credible, suggesting the testimony was a complete disaster.

The hearing began sliding downhill once Whitaker responded to a question from Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) by telling him that he’d reached his time limit.

“His performance was truly cringeworthy starting with reminding the chairman that his five minutes was up,” Clapper said. “Boy, you just don’t do that and I thought that was truly amateur hour.”

Feeling Whitaker’s testimony couldn’t be trusted, Clapper said “he was terrible and obviously in over his head.”

Furthermore, he argued that the hearing in which Whitaker refused to defend the integrity of the Mueller inquiry was “a reminder of how the independence of the Department of Justice has kind of taken a beating with him as the acting AG.”

Asked whether he was overseeing a so-called “witch hunt” in regard to the Russia inquiry, Whitaker declined to answer, contending that it would be inappropriate for him to comment on an ongoing investigation.

While Whitaker testified that he has not interfered with Mueller’s work, speculation has swirled over his previous criticisms of the investigation, which he has voiced publicly several times on cable news.
