A convertible is never dry. The rain pooled on the corners of the hood and slowly dripped onto the dash.It was better when the car was moving, but now we sat looking over the houses of Lakeway HIlls. She was illicit. Oh, I don't mean to insinuate illegal. Just, something about her was as inticing as opium. I pulled on the joint, held, and exhaled. Rain beat irregulary irregular on the windscreen. I extended the herb. She took it and smoked, breathed. blew.

"Why?". I asked. I looked away knowing she was gone.

"I don't want to deal with all that shit", she replied.

"You don't want to deal with the truth? With Reality?"

"How do you know it's truth?", she snapped.

"I don't! I don't know, but I'm not going to just accept 'truth' from a placeless person."

"blah blah blah". she rolled her eyes.

I was about to break a tooth. Clinching. Jaw so tight. I opened my door and stepped into the warm rain. I cleared the back of the car and opened her door. She looked at me as if I was an idiot. I grabbed her right arm and tugged her into the rain.

"Take another blue pill!", I screamed. "Maybe that will get you home? I love you, but you won't make it. You won't make it! "

I backed around into the driver's seat, turned the ignition, put the car in first gear and drove away. In the mirror I could see her arms in the air.

I drove about a mile before I reconsidered. Stopping the car, I sat, breathing heavily.

"Fuck!".

A moment passed before I turned around and peeled back to where I had just escaped.

She was standing the in the same spot. For a moment I thought about just hitting her and saying, " I told you so", but I wasn't a psychopath. I stopped and opened the door.

"Get it!"

"Fuck you. You're crazy!"

"GET IN!"

"Go Away!" she wailed. "I hate you!".

That's when I heard the "pop". The top right corner of her head pealed away and she crumpled to the ground. Her damaged head and chest fell foward with a sickening "thwack".

And then from the dark something moved through the air, hit the ground with a dense sound and skidded across pavement, stopping just outside my car's door.

It was a pistol.
