Yellow Vest act XIII sees militarized police blow off another protesters hand
The right hand of one of the Yellow Vest protesters has been blown off by a police grenade, according to an eyewitness, during Saturday's demonstrations in Paris.
RT video agency Ruptly's footage from the scene shows clouds of smoke billowing around the street as protesters and police clash outside the grounds of the National Assembly.
Video captured in the moments surrounding the horrific hand injury show a marked escalation between police and protesters. One police grenade was filmed exploding as protesters approached the device.
Eyewitness Cyprien Royer told RT France that he and the injured man were near the National Assembly, where a group of people dressed in black were trying to smash their way in.
"That guy was just observing. The police arrived and started throwing grenades," Royer explained. "One grenade flew right under the guy's feet, and he tried to instinctively push it away with his hand, he hit it, and the grenade went off."
"He clutched onto us. We led him to the wall where there were no people. He was screaming, screaming, he was in an [awful] state," the shocked witness added. "We called the 'street medics,' many came, they didn't even understand at first he had his hand blown off."
The Ruptly crew who filmed the horrific aftermath of the blast injury say they rushed over after hearing an explosion, and found the injured protester surrounded by paramedics.

Orban: “Neglecting the will of the citizens means building a European empire”
No major decisions should be made before the European parliamentary elections “when European citizens will make their choice”, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a meeting of Visegrad Group prime ministers and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Cooperation between the V4 and Germany must continue after the EP elections in May, Orban told the press after the summit. The talks were characterised by “a positive and sincere tone,” he added.
Orban said participants in the meeting had been the EU’s “core states”, countries that “stand out with their performance”.
Based on their public debt, budget deficit, exports, unemployment rate and structural reforms, they constitute Europe’s core states and, complemented by Germany, the economic engine of Europe, Orban said. Participants in the meeting agreed on the need for a strong Europe and pledged to cooperate to that end, the prime minister added.

Cost for US troops to rise 8.2%
South Korea signed a provisional agreement to pay around 1.04 trillion won this year for the stationing of U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) troops here, a rise of 8.2 percent year-on-year.
Chang Won-sam, the top negotiator in defense cost-sharing negotiations and Timothy Betts, acting deputy assistant secretary and senior adviser for security negotiations and agreements of U.S. State Department signed the one-year contract at the foreign ministry in Seoul, Sunday which the South will pay 1.038 trillion won ($923 million) for stationing 28,500 USFK soldiers in South Korea. The figure was to reflect an 8.2 percent increase of Seoul's own defense budget in 2019 year-on-year. The South paid 960.2 billion won for the defense cost sharing in 2018.
The official Special Measures Agreement (SMA) will be officially signed by Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Harry Harris after Cabinet members and President Moon Jae-in approve the preliminary document. The SMA will take effect after National Assembly ratifies it around April.
The agreement came after months-long negotiations between the two since last year.

Bangladesh calls record annual drugs seizure proof violent crackdown is working
Bangladesh seized a record 53 million methamphetamine pills in 2018 – up 33 per cent in a year – amid a deadly nationwide crackdown on the trade, officials said on Sunday.
Nearly 300 suspected drug dealers were killed last year, according to authorities, who insisted the seizure figure was proof their campaign was working.
The government Department of Narcotics Control said the drug – popularly known as ‘yaba’, a Thai word meaning ‘crazy medicine’ – was seized across the nation of 165 million people.
“It is the highest amount seized in a year,” said Bazlur Rahman, a department deputy director.
Masum-e-Rabbani, another senior official at the department, said the record haul meant the crackdown launched in May was yielding “positive” results. He insisted there has been a significant decline in the use and sale of yaba.

Mexican drug cartels are targeting Australia, say police after busting a record A$1.29 billion of meth in joint US-Australia investigation
Six people have been arrested after a massive 1.7 tonnes of methamphetamine, with a street value of A$1.29 billion (US$900 million), was seized in a joint investigation by Australian and United States authorities that exposed new ties between Mexican cartels and Aussie biker gangs.
The illicit cargo – the largest single seizure of methamphetamine in the US and the biggest haul of the drug bound for Australia – was hidden in shipping containers labelled as loudspeakers, said US authorities. It was seized in mid-January at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex in California, along with smaller amounts of cocaine and heroin.
The meth haul would have provided around 17 million hits of the drug in Australia.
Australian authorities said the operation with the US Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, Australian Federal Police and Victoria state police had stopped “a tsunami of ice” from reaching their shores.
