Retired nuclear radiation protection tech here. I did environmental monitoring which included radiation measurements with TLDs (thermoluminescent dosimeters) for many years. I never saw any measurable increase in radiation levels above background in any of the dozen plus dosimeters positioned around the plant and elsewhere. And TLDs can measure high energy gammas (ionizing radiation).
