I'm not defending this AT ALL, but I also think we do ourselves a disservice when we paint a 24-year-old (his age in 1988) having sex with a 16-year-old in the same light as a pedophile-by-definition (requires pre-pubescent..say a 24-year-old, or adult of any age, having sex with a 10-year-old). What he did was illegal, yes. But it's legal in many states at 16 (lots of conditions apply) and around the world, and it's impossible to reasonably call a 16-year-old female a biological child. I've never had sex with anyone under age 19, but I mean…girls sexually active at 16 is really common (unfortunately) and consensual sex between a girl that age and a "heartthrob" movie star is not exactly the kind of pedophile crime we should be most targeting. If this is a routine thing for him and/or they get younger than that, then it's a different story. ALL I'm saying is that I remember being 16, and to pretend that I wasn't a considerably developed sexual creature in both mind and body (albeit new to the whole thing) would be disingenuous. Again…not defending Rob Lowe…may very well be a total creep.
