We got our Bahai co-conspirators and our Subud co-conspiritors and I went looking for the connection between Bahai and Subud: Kejawèn or Javanism, also called Kebatinan, Agama Jawa, and Kepercayaan, is a Javanese religious tradition, consisting of an amalgam of animistic, Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic, especially Sufi, beliefs and practices. It is rooted in Javanese history and religiosity, syncretizing aspects of different religions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kejaw%C3%A8n

Two flavors of Islam in Java: Abangan is the form influenced by Kejawen.

The Abangan are Javanese people who are Muslims who practice a much more syncretic version of Islam than the more orthodox santri.

The term, apparently derived from the Javanese language word for red, abang,

was first developed by Clifford Geertz, but the meaning has since shifted. Abangan are more inclined to follow a local system of beliefs called adat and Kebatinan than pure Sharia (Islamic law). Their belief system integrates Hinduism, Buddhism and animism.
