'LEGENDARY' SAN ANTONIO BUSINESS SIX MILLION IN DEBT AND SUED BY TRANSPECOS BANKS…WHY NOW?? Mebbe TEH WALL?
The lender for Papa Grande Foods Gourmet, which does business as Garcia Foods, sued the company this week, alleging it defaulted on about $6 million in loans. The lender wants a court to appoint a receiver to take control of Garcia Foods, which makes barbacoa, tamales, chorizo and other Mexican food products.
The San Antonio company that makes Mexican food products under the brand name Andy Garcia Foods is facing severe financial pressures, casting doubt about its future, its lender alleges in a lawsuit.
Papa Grande Gourmet Foods, which says it does business as Garcia Foods, needs $1 million “to stay viable,” according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday by TransPecos Banks.

'STARTED WITH A FIFTEEN DOLLAR INVESTMENT'
Garcia Foods is truly a “San Antonio Original.” The company was founded in 1956 when Andy Garcia, with a $15 investment, began producing barbacoa in his garage. He sold the barbacoa from his truck making approximately $30 a day. Today, Garcia Foods is a major producer of a growing line of Mexican food products including tamales, fajitas, chorizo, shredded chicken, picadillo, carne guisada, carnitas, chili, refried beans, and rice.
