Ex-Saudi intelligence chief reveals secret Israel-Saudi relations

The ex-Saudi Intelligence Chief Turki Al-Faisal this weekend revealed that secret relations between Israel and a number of Gulf states date back as far as 25 years.

According to Qatari newspaper Al-Arab, Al-Faisal was interviewed by Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, who claims to have conducted interviews with 20 prominent Gulf officials with knowledge of secret relations with Israel. However, many of these people refused to speak to the camera, Israel’s Channel 13 reported.

Ravid said that Al-Faisal – who had spoken several times to Israeli media and criticised the Palestinian resistance – agreed to speak to a programme called “The Secrets of the Gulf”, which explores the secret relations between Israel, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar.

Israeli TV aired only two minutes of the interview, which is planned to be aired fully as a series. In these two minutes, Al-Faisal referred to the Israel-Palestine situation as the “Palestinian issue or solving the conflict,” instead of terms used by the Arab states such as the “Arab-Israeli conflict,” which is mentioned in the Arab Peace Initiative formulated by Saudi Arabia.

In the series, Ravid claims he will reveal information about a “world of economic, political and military relations” between Israel and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He adds that most Israelis do not know about these relations, as they are being run by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, together with Israel’s national intelligence agency Mossad.

During the Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014, Al-Faisal – who is a member of the Saudi royal family – said that he would welcome the Israelis in his home. This was not the first time he had made such a suggestion, having once written an article for a Hebron newspaper – Al-Arab claims – telling the Israelis: “I welcome you to my house in [Saudi capital] Riyadh.”

Pompeo Warns Europe of Risks to US Cooperation if It Continues to do Business With Huawei

BUDAPEST—U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Feb. 11 that America might be forced to scale back certain operations in Europe and elsewhere if countries continue to do business with the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei.

Pompeo made the comments in Budapest on the first leg of a five-nation European tour during which he said he would raise American concerns about China and Russia’s growing influence in Central Europe. He said he also would discuss concerns about the rule of law, democracy and human rights in the region, particularly in Hungary, where nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been criticized for increasingly authoritarian rule.

On Huawei, which is a major player in Hungary, Pompeo said he would make the case to Orban and other officials that doing business with the company comes with significant risks for information security and privacy that could imperil cooperation with the United States. U.S. officials are deeply troubled by Huawei’s expansion in Europe, especially in NATO members including Hungary, where they believe it poses significant threats.

“They are a sovereign nation. They get to make their own decisions with respect to these things,” Pompeo told reporters at an impromptu news conference at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest. “What is imperative is that we share with them the things we know about the risks that Huawei’s presence in their networks present—actual risks to their people, to the loss of privacy protections for their own people, to the risk that China will use this in a way that is not in the best interest of Hungary.”

“We have an obligation to share this with them, and we will do so,” Pompeo said. “But second, we have seen this all around the world. It also makes it more difficult for America to be present. That is, if that equipment is co-located where we have important American systems, it makes it more difficult for us to partner alongside them. We want to make sure we identify (to) them the opportunities and the risks with using that equipment. And then they will get to make their decisions.”

The United States has repeatedly accused the Chinese regime of using technology to pilfer trade secrets.

Israel destroys Palestinian house near Bethlehem

Israeli regime forces have demolished a Palestinian house in a village in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, displacing its inhabitants of five.

The Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported on Monday that dozens of heavily-armed Israeli soldiers escorted bulldozers to the northern part of the village of al-Walajah in Bethlehem and demolished a 100-square-meter property there.

The house was owned by a Palestinian named Majdi Shweiki, and he lived there with his family, according to local sources.

Ma’an said about 180 homes in al-Walaja Village had received demolition notices from Israeli regime authorities and that 40 of them had received demolition orders under claims that they had been built without “building permits,” which the Israeli regime never issues in the so-called Area C of the West Bank anyway.

Area C, which is under full Israeli control, makes up more than 60 percent of the entire occupied West Bank. Eighty eight percent of the area lies in the strategic Jordan Valley, which comprises a third of the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli authorities frequently demolish Palestinian buildings and structures in the area, with Bedouin and herding communities being particularly vulnerable to that practice.

International bodies and rights groups say Israeli demolitions of Palestinian structures in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds are an attempt to uproot Palestinians from their native territory and confiscate more land for the expansion of illegal settlements.

Israel has been occupying the West Bank, including East al-Quds, since 1967. Ever since, it has been building settlements throughout the land, in a move condemned by the United Nations (UN) and considered illegal under international law.

About 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds.

In a separate report a day earlier, Ma’an said that an Israeli settler had attacked a journalist in the southern occupied West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron).

Israel urges Dutch court to dismiss case against Gantz over 2014 Gaza strike

The Justice Ministry on Monday said the government has asked a Dutch court to dismiss war crimes allegations against Israel Resilience party leader Benny Gantz, a former IDF chief of staff who is challenging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the April elections.

A Dutch-Palestinian man originally from the Gaza Strip last year sued Gantz and former Air Force chief Amir Eshel for their roles in a 2014 airstrike on his family’s home that killed six relatives. The dead included a 72-year-old woman and a 12-year-old child.

The airstrike on the Zeyada family home took place during Operation Protective Edge against terror groups in Gaza.

The ministry said Monday that an internal Israeli military investigation determined the airstrike had killed four terrorists, including three family members, hiding in the house. It said the attack was permissible under international law, and argued the Dutch court does not have jurisdiction. Terror group Hamas — which rules Gaza and openly seeks Israel’s destruction — has admitted that two of its members were in the building.

“Israel has several mechanisms in place and a robust legal system available to address allegations such as those raised by the plaintiff,” the ministry said.

CA Gov. Gavin Newsom to Pull National Guard Troops From Border with Mexico

California Governor Gavin Newsom will announce plans Monday to pull National Guard troops from the US border with Mexico, NBC News reported.

Gavin Newsom says California will not be a part of the Trump administration’s “manufactured crisis.”

According to NBC, Newsome will redirect the 360 National Guard troops to fight wildfires and collect intel on drug cartels.

Last week, New Mexico also announced they will be pulling National Guard troops from their border with Mexico, claiming President Trump was just “fear-mongering” to deploy troops in the first place.

Gavin Newsom, the newly-elected Democrat Governor of California promised “sanctuary for all who seek it” during his inauguration ceremony.

President Trump has deployed over 4,000 National Guard troops to the US-Mexico border since April of 2018 — this is in addition to the 5,000 active duty troops deployed to border towns as well.

Unfortunately the troops cannot arrest illegal aliens, they are there to assist border patrol.

Israeli Supreme Court Asked to Overturn Law Protecting IDF from Civil Damages

Haifa-based nongovernmental organization Adalah on Sunday asked the Israeli Supreme Court to overturn the law protecting Israeli soldiers from having to pay civil damages when they negligently harm Gazans on the basis that all of Gaza is a war zone.

Adalah and the Gaza-based Al Mezan Center for Human Rights are appealing a lower court's 2018 denial of the case of Palestinian high school student Attiya Nabaheen, who was shot while on his family's property on his 15th birthday in 2014 by Israeli soldiers, Palestinian news source Wafa reports. Nabaheen is confined to a wheelchair as a result of his injuries. An Israeli lower court found in November 2018 that Nabaheen could not seek restitution from the Israel Defense Force because as a resident of Gaza he lives in "enemy territory," as an Adalah press release described.
