US Muslim Lawmaker Apologizes After Criticism of AIPAC Called 'Anti-Semitic'

Muslim US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar apologized for her criticism of the pro-Israel lobby after dozens of her fellow lawmakers denounced her remarks as anti-Semitic.

"Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic Tropes", Omar said. "This is why I unreservedly apologize".

Omar became the center of a controversy after she tweeted on Sunday, "It's all about the Benjamins baby", using slang for a $100 bill in a message suggesting that US support for Israeli had been purchased through groups such as the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Her comments were roundly condemned by members of Congress, many of whom, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, called on her to issue an apology for remarks they said were prejudiced and anti-Semitic.

Though Omar apologized, she maintained her position that groups such as AIPAC, the National Rifle Association and the fossil fuel industry exercise undue influence in Congress.

"It’s been going on too long and we must be willing to address it," she said.

Omar's tweet sparked outrage in Congress, especially among fellow Democratic lawmakers, who began circulating for signatures a letter of protest to the House of Representatives leadership.

The latest criticism of Omar came less than a month since the congresswoman apologized for previous anti-Semitic comments.

New England Patriot quarterback Tom Brady detailed some of the…unique methods his wife employs to ensure the future Hall of Famer succeeds on the field during a charity event Thursday, according to WBZ-TV.

Brady, who just won his sixth Super Bowl over the Los Angeles Rams, said his wife Gisele Bundchen, who has described herself as a "witch," has a series of rituals she performs at games.

"She always makes a little altar for me at the game, because she just wills it so much," Brady said. "So she put together a little altar for me that I can bring with pictures of my kids, and I have these little special stones and healing stones and protection stones, and she has me wear this necklace, and take these drops she makes, and I say all these mantras, and I stopped questioning her a long time ago."

The audience was laughing as Brady talked, seemingly unsure whether or not he was joking. But Brady wasn't finished. He went on to detail that he talks to his wife before the season or before games to see if she is predicting that the Patriots will win or not—and he claims she gets it right.

"About four years ago we were playing the Seahawks and she said 'you better listen to me, this is your year, but this is all the things you're going to have to do to win,' and I did all those things and by God, you know, it worked," Brady said.

Brady said Bundchen has told him he's lucky he married a "good witch."
