Have personally done the research and until our society goes back to a moral code that all killing (not including execution by a court of law) is immoral, our students and teachers remain an easy and extremely soft target.
Armed security has been in place at most urban schools for decades and should remain so. If the trend of school violence goes down we can revisit the issue, but for now officers and selected teachers with tasers and other appropriate weapons (handguns included) need to be on site.
Assault weapons should be reserved for response teams, but potential perpetrators need to see armed security on site!
