Church is good, but is there a particular scripture you feel makes it inappropriate or impossible to have a direct and personal relationship/communication with God through Jesus? We're told in the Bible that we can boldly approach the throne of grace and make our petitions known."

We aren't meant to have solely a personal relationship with God. That is where the church come in. Hard to have a church without some level of faith in your fellow man. You probably have more faith in your wife than your friends. This is the problem with interpreting scripture in isolation and not in context and relation to the rest of scripture.
