Google Accidentally Reveals Locations of Secret Taiwan Missile Sites (PHOTOS)

Google’s latest 3D rendered maps of four Taiwanese cities have inadvertently revealed the locations of key missile defense locations on the self-governing island, including a previously-secret Patriot missile base. Now, Taipei is rushing to push the tech giant to blur the maps over those sites.

In 2012, Google Maps announced its intention to stereophotogrammetrically map many of the world's major cities, enabling users to see them in three dimensions and incredible detail. On Wednesday, the updated maps of the cities of Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Taichung on Taiwan Island, which governs itself independently of Beijing, were released to the public. However, Taipei officials were quick to realize that the pictures were a little too detailed for their comfort.

The tech giant's maps are so good that they revealed previously unknown missile bases and other defense installations across the island. The pictures are so detailed that it's possible to tell what type of missiles and vehicles are being shown, including the previously secret Patriot missile base in Ankeng, Taipei, as well as defense infrastructure at the National Security Bureau and the Military Intelligence Bureau, the South China Morning Post noted.

Now, the Ministry of National Defense is rushing to get Google to blur the maps over those locations, ministry chief Yen Teh-Fa told the Legislative Yuan, the country's unicameral parliament, on Friday, according to the Central News Agency.

However, Yen reassured the legislature and the public, saying, "The site of defense infrastructure at times of peace does not indicate its location at times of war," CNA reported.

In Taiwan it's illegal under the Fort Act to reveal the locations of certain military structures, although Yen noted that "the confidential parts are all inside the structures, which would be highly difficult to expose through the 3D maps."

Pelosi: Declare Gun Violence a 'National Emergency' Because of 'Consistent Loss of Life'

WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that Congress should declare gun violence a “national emergency” and pass new gun laws to address the “epidemic” in the country.

Pelosi was referencing President Trump’s desire to declare a “national emergency” to obtain extra funding to build a border wall.

Pelosi hopes H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, will pass out of the House by the end of this month. According to the text of the bill, “it shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm for the purpose of complying with subsection.”

She said anyone who tries to block the legislation should keep in mind that gun-control activists aren’t going anywhere.

“We’re not going away. You might as well save yourself a lot of time by accepting that fact, that the law will be changed, that lives will be saved,” Pelosi said during an event Tuesday organized by MoCo Students for Change, a student-led anti-gun violence group, and Change the Ref.

“It’s an epidemic. It’s an emergency. We should declare it an emergency and take great action immediately. Are you ready to accept the success we are about to have?” she added.

Pelosi called on the student activists to help mobilize the public to push the bill to passage through the Senate so the bill “will shine in a way that is irresistible” once it hits Trump’s desk. Pelosi told PJM that the universal background check bill has “overwhelming support in the country” and is the most likely gun-control legislation to pass in this session of Congress.

“We have a lot of across-the-board agreement that certain people should just not have guns and if there is a recognition of that, you know, in other words, there are family-reported certain violent activity – I don’t want to call it by a name it is known as because some people will take offense at it. In other words, to be wise and smart and clear about our purpose,” she said.

Pelosi explained why she thinks the Congress should declare gun violence a national emergency.

“It’s a national emergency because of the number of lives that are lost every day in our country. We hear about them at notorious events, whether mass murders, but there are mass murders happening quite a bit around the country that we don’t hear about so because of the loss of life involved, consistent loss of life. It is an epidemic and a national emergency and it must be addressed as such, but what’s making it happen is the outside mobilization,” Pelosi said. “We can just do so much internally, the inside maneuvering, the outside mobilization is what gives us all hope.”

Other lawmakers including Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-R.I.) and Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-Md.) addressed the group. Political artist Manny Oliver, father of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victim Joaquin Oliver, also delivered remarks at the event, where a “Walls of Demand” art display was revealed to mark the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Florida.

Yemen: US “Accidentally” Arming Al Qaeda (Again)

US weapons are once again falling into the hands of militants fighting in one of Washington’s many proxy wars – this time in Yemen – the militants being fighters of local Al Qaeda affiliates.

CNN in its article, “Sold to an ally, lost to an enemy,” would admit:

Saudi Arabia and its coalition partners have transferred American-made weapons to al Qaeda-linked fighters, hardline Salafi militias, and other factions waging war in Yemen, in violation of their agreements with the United States, a CNN investigation has found.

The article also claims:

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, its main partner in the war, have used the US-manufactured weapons as a form of currency to buy the loyalties of militias or tribes, bolster chosen armed actors, and influence the complex political landscape, according to local commanders on the ground and analysts who spoke to CNN.

Weapon transfer included everything from small arms to armored vehicles, CNN would report.

The article would include a response from Pentagon spokesman Johnny Michael, who claimed:

The United States has not authorized the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates to re-transfer any equipment to parties inside Yemen.

The US government cannot comment on any pending investigations of claims of end-use violations of defense articles and services transferred to our allies and partners.

Despite obvious evidence that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are both violating whatever agreements the Pentagon claims to have with both nations, the US continues fighting their joint war in Yemen for them in all but name.

The US role in Yemen includes not only arming Saudi Arabia and the UAE, but also training their pilots, selecting targets, sharing intelligence, repairing weapon systems, refuelling Saudi warplanes, and even through the deployment of US special forces along The Saudi-Yemeni border.

Because of this continued and unconditional support – Pentagon complaints over weapon transfers it claims were unauthorized ring particularly hollow. More so when considering in other theaters of war, US weapons also “accidentally” ended up in the hands of extremists that just so happened to be fighting against forces the US opposed.
