Why do you think every time an anon asks a question, they should first do a search?

I would rather do my own research for my posts and ask a simple question to someone who probably knows the answer pretty quickly.

Buh bye.

BRUSSELS has waged war on Italy after threatening to demand huge amounts of cash from the troubled nation should it pull out of a colossal rail project that has divided its coalition government for months.

The European Commission today demanded Italy confirm its stance on whether it will provide a high-speed rail link to France to avoid losing some of the country’s grants provided by the EU. The Commission also warned Italy if it does not go through with their project, Brussels could demand an eye-watering 810million euros from Rome in money already spent on the link. Referring to the grants, a European Commission spokesman said: “The commission cannot exclude that it may have to request Italy to repay.” The anti-establishment 5-Star Movement has long opposed the plan for the train connection, known as TAV, to link the Italian city of Turin to Lyon in France having rubbished the investment as a waste of cash.

Though League, the other half of the Italian government, argued the member state urgently needs the rail link.

The EU Commission told a news conference that clarifications from Rome should arrive in the coming days, putting pressure on Rome as infighting within the Italian government continues.

A report into the project and published two days ago by 5-Star Movement said the rail link would be “very negatively profitable” for Italy, and would see the country haemorrhage up to seven billion euros by the year 2059.

The report explained that while the line could make 1.3billion euros in passenger traffic, the sum did little to offset future construction and management costs of 7.9 billion euros and 463 million euros in lost revenue from fuel taxes and motorway tolls.

The tunnel to link the two countries, which has already been dug through the Alps, would reduce travel time between Milan and Paris from seven hours to four.

The threats follow news that despite Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit battle, Britain’s economy grew faster than Italy’s throughout last year highlighting the increasing crisis engulfing the eurozone.

Italy, which had already tumbled into recession last month, saw its economy shrink further by 0.1 percent.

The UK economy grew at its slowest rate last year since 2012, with GDP up by 0.2 percent during the final three months of 2018 compared to 0.6 percent in the previous quarter.

But over the course of 2018, it still grew 1.3 percent year-on-year, beating Germany (zero growth) and Italy, as well as France (0.9 percent).
