Is the missing letter symbolic of a missing man?

My heart has been breaking ever since I thought of this possibility. I know this is not a game. I know that sacrifices are made knowingly and willingly, not for glory or recognition, but out of loyalty, patriotism and the knowledge that the cause is the future of Mankind and worth whatever it takes.

I hope that, when this is all over, this person's sacrifice will be recognized and the heroism that inspired it celebrated.
