Jussie Smollett retains defense lawyer as Chicago police search his home

Jussie Smollett has lawyered up. After news spread that Chicago police were treating his report of a hate crime as a hoax, he has retained the council of notorious high-profile defense attorney Michael Monico. This lawyer has represented other notorious defendants like Michael Cohen and a Cabinet member under President G.W. Bush. He describes himself on his website as "the premier criminal defense attorney in the country." Mr. Monico specializes in "white collar, health care fraud, antitrust, public corruption, mail, wire and securities fraud, and foreign corrupt practices investigations throughout the United States and around the globe." Quite an ominous sign for a man clinging to his own victimhood to pick a criminal defense attorney.

Smollett has already purchased services from the P.R. firm Sunshine Sachs, which manages the legal scandals of other clients like Harvey Weinstein. The firm has taken over making public statements on its newest celebrity client's behalf. Most likely at its direction, he has scrubbed all of his social media accounts of any personal mention of the alleged incident.

Chicago police released the Nigerian brothers late Friday evening after dropping battery charges against them. The brothers, one of whom appeared as an extra on Jussie Smollett's television show, were picked up late Wednesday night when their flight landed at O'Hare airport. They were returning from their home country of Nigeria, which they had departed to hours after Jussie reported the "attack."

While the two were in police custody, law enforcement raided their house and took a list of items including five containers of bleach, computers, firearms, and a "red hat." Over 1000 'Scientists' Sign "Dissent From Darwinism" Statement

Signers have earned their Ph.D.s at institutions that include Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth and the University of Pennsylvania. Former U.S. Cardinal McCarrick defrocked for sex crimes

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Former U.S. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick has been expelled from the Roman Catholic priesthood after he was found guilty of sexual crimes against minors and adults, the Vatican said on Saturday.

Pope Francis has decided that the ruling, which followed an appeal by the man who was a power-broker as Archbishop of Washington, D.C. from 2001 to 2006, was now final.

A Vatican statement said his crimes were made more serious by "the aggravating factor of the abuse of power".

McCarrick, who in July became the first Roman Catholic prelate in nearly 100 years to lose the title of cardinal, has now become the highest profile church figure to be dismissed from the priesthood in modern times.

The decision comes as the Church is still grappling with a decades-long sexual abuse crisis that has exposed how predator priests were moved from parish to parish instead of being defrocked or turned over to civilian authorities in countries across the globe.

With the ruling, Pope Francis appears to be sending a signal that even those in the highest echelons of the hierarchy will be held accountable.

German police is hiding facts about migrant crime statistics “to preserve civil peace”

The German newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine recently raised the question if violent crime statistics are tweaked in the country.

A state police officer is quoted saying: “There is no lying, nothing is hushed, but things are deliberately left out.”

“There are orders to use our latitude of interpretation to preserve civil peace.”

The journalist Dieter Wonka met with the police officer, and now he knows specifically how the statistics are tweaked.

In a short video clip he states the following: “There is no written instruction to falsify the statistics. There are certain terms, for instance honour killings or sexual offenses, that if possible should not appear in reports.”

Hur for the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson of the FBI Baltimore Field Office; Acting Commissioner Michael Harrison of the Baltimore Police Department; Special Agent in Charge Rob Cekada of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore Field Division; Assistant Special Agent in Charge Don A. Hibbert of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Baltimore District Office; Anne Arundel County Police Chief Tim Altomare and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby.

Montana Barronette, aka Tana, and Tanner, 23, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake for the District of Maryland to serve life in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The racketeering conspiracy included eight murders – six committed by Barronette – as well as drug trafficking and witness intimidation. Barronette and his co-defendants were also convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, marijuana, and cocaine. A federal jury convicted Barronette and seven co-defendants on Oct. 31, 2018.

Democratic leaders directed their deputies on the 2019 border security panel to hide their negotiating victories from President Donald Trump, according to the Washington Post.

The Post reported on the border deal:

Poland rejects EU army, wants US & NATO help instead

Poland’s Foreign Minister has dismissed the idea of creating an EU army independent of NATO at the Munich Security Conference. Poland, he said, needs “an American presence” to compete with Russia.

Combining the military forces of the EU’s 28 member states has long been a dream of some EU leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron talked up the idea of building a “real European army” to protect Europeans from Russia, China, “and even the US” last year. German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave the idea a thumbs-up, stating that such an army would ensure “there will never again be war between European nations.” The plan also has the support of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

However, the EU is more divided than the cozy relationship between Macron and Merkel suggests. Macron’s vision was rubbished by neutral Austria’s defense minister, and by Dutch PM Mark Rutte. Now, the Polish government has also rejected the idea.
