Two humanitarian corridors for Syria’s Rukban refugee camp to be opened early on Feb 19

"As things stand, once again convinced that it does not seem possible to obtain any constructive position from the side of American partners, while further failure to take measures to solve the problems of the Rukban camp will only cause new civilian casualties, the Syrian government with the help of the Russian Federation has decided to open two humanitarian corridors on the border of a 55-kilometer zone (around Al-Tanf) occupied by the US in the Jleighem and Jebel al-Gurab settlements where respective checkpoints will be located allowing Syrian refugees to leave voluntarily, freely and safely for places of residence they choose," the statement said.

"The round-the-clock service of checkpoints to meet, accept, distribute and provide necessary assistance to internally displaced people leaving the Rukban camp will start at 9:00 a.m. Moscow time on February 19, 2019," the report added.

Who Voted for the US to Rule the World?

One of the most disturbing aspects of the past two years of Donald Trump foreign policy has been the assumption that decisions made by the United States are binding on the rest of the world. Apart from time of war, no other nation has ever sought to prevent other nations from trading with each other. And the United States has also uniquely sought to penalise other countries for alleged crimes that did not occur in the US and that did not involve American citizens, while also insisting that all nations must comply with whatever penalties are meted out by Washington.

The United States now sees itself as judge, jury and executioner in policing the international community, a conceit that began post World War 2 when American presidents began referring to themselves as “leader of the free world.” This pretence received legislative backing with passage of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1987 (ATA) as amended in 1992 plus subsequent related legislation, to include the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act of 2016 (JASTA). The body of legislation can be used by US citizens or residents to obtain civil judgments against alleged terrorists anywhere in the world and can be employed to punish governments, international organisations and even corporations that are perceived to be supportive of terrorists, even indirectly or unknowingly. Plaintiffs are able to sue for injuries to their “person, property, or business” and have ten years to bring a claim.

Sometimes the connections and level of proof required by a US court to take action are tenuous, and that is being polite. Suits currently can claim secondary liability for third parties, including banks and large corporations, under “material support” of terrorism statutes. This includes “aiding and abetting” liability as well as providing “services” to any group that the United States considers to be terrorist, even if the terrorist label is dubious and/or if that support is inadvertent.

There have been two recent lawsuits seeking civil damages under ATA and JASTA involved Iran and Syria. Regarding Iran, in June 2017 a jury deliberated for one day before delivering a guilty verdict against two Iranian foundations for violation of US sanctions, allowing a federal court to authorise the US government seizure of a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. It was the largest terrorism-related civil forfeiture in United States history. The presiding judge decided to distribute proceeds from the building’s sale, which could amount to as much as $1 billion, to the families of victims of terrorism, including the September 11th attacks. The court ruled that Iran had some culpability for the 9/11 attacks as a state sponsor of terrorism, though it could not determine that Iran was directly involved in the attacks.

Preparation for the 6666 bread

Ephesians 6:10-18

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Bill Gates backs tiny robotic surgeons that operate from inside a patient’s body

Bill Gates has thrown $10 million behind the development of tiny camera-wielding surgical robots that can be placed inside a person’s body through a small incision and controlled by a surgeon anywhere in the world via VR.

The innovative technology uses miniscule robots combined with virtual reality to carry out a groundbreaking new concept for minimally invasive surgery.

The human-like bots consist of two arms and a head. The arms are controlled by a surgeon as they move their own arms, while the head acts as the surgeon’s eyes so they can see inside the patient’s body and virtually perform the procedure from within. The operation can theoretically be carried out from hundreds of miles away – providing there’s a strong internet connection, of course.

The idea is for surgeons to feel like they have been shrunken down to pocket size and transported into a patient’s body. The technology has the ability to cut the cost of major surgeries and also given people access to the best surgeons regardless of location.

“We’ve been working on ways to miniaturize robotics and put all of the motion of surgery into the abdominal cavity,” said Vicarious Surgical co-founder Adam Sachs, 27, to TechCrunch. “If you put all of the motion inside the abdominal cavity you are not confined to motion around the incision sites.”

Vicarious Surgical, the Massachusetts-based company developing the technology, announced the funding led by the billionaire’s ‘Gates Frontier’ on Thursday. They said the investment gets them one step closer to their long-term goal of bringing the groundbreaking technology to patients in remote parts of the world.

“A lot of our long-term vision is about growing and scaling our technology to the point where it’s accessible not just to big cities and major hospitals in the US [but] also the small cities and towns in the rural US and around the world as well,” said Sachs.

Most hospitals can’t afford the $2-million robots needed to perform today’s robotic surgeries, says Sachs, but by making the devices much smaller, the technology will be more widely available. “Long-term, it’s about the democratization of surgery that can come from surgical robotics,” he said.
