Millions of people use Tor every day to evade surveillance and censorship. Tor’s security and privacy protections enable activists to mobilize, journalists to report, and ordinary people to access blocked resources and avoid tracking.

Whistleblowers, those brave individuals who report illicit activity, also depend on Tor to protect their identities when they come forward.

We've highlighted how onion services can be used to secure the web. Now, we're starting to see anonymity technologies become a legal requirement for public agency and corporate anti-corruption compliance, with the first well-known implementation by Xnet in the City Hall of Barcelona in Spain.

Many national laws (such as Italian Dlgs. 231/2001) require companies to adopt corporate governance structures and risk prevention systems, which can include allowing whistleblowing submissions. However, most whistleblowing laws only protect whistleblowers when their identity is disclosed, which can put the person reporting corruption at risk.

In 2016, the International Standards Organization (ISO) released a new model for organizations setting up and operating anti-bribery management systems, ISO 37001:2016. To meet ISO standards, organizations or companies implementing anti-corruption procedures must allow anonymous reporting, as explicitly indicated in point 8.9 of section C of ISO 37001:2016.

Furthermore, national laws (such as recent Italian 179/2017) require the adoption of IT systems for whistleblowing, leading to the practical integration and use of Tor for its technological anonymity features.

To comply with these standards, the Italian Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), an administrative watchdog, just launched their national online whistleblowing platform using onion services, giving whistleblowers who come forward a secure way to report illegal activity while protecting their identities. Most anti-corruption whistleblowers first speak out anonymously, and only when they know that their concerns are being addressed do they disclose their identities, as reported by Transparency International Italy, an organization advocating uses of Tor in the fight against corruption since 2014.

ANAC software is based on a customized version of GlobaLeaks, a whistleblowing platform by the Hermes Center that integrates Tor natively. GlobaLeaks is expected to be redistributed to all Italian public agencies (~20.000 in total) to comply with Law 179/2017 and in line with the country’s recent strategic commitment to open-source software and the reuse of code.

Given that Tor is the world’s strongest internet anonymity tool, we expect to see usage of onion services for secure communication systems across all sectors continue to gain traction.

If you want to use onion services for your organization, check our documentation and see if the Enterprise Onion Toolkit is a good fit.

The Tor Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we depend on your help to build tools that protect privacy and resist repressive censorship and surveillance. Your donation can help us continue this critical work.

Please update the article with HTTPS links when possible, for example www.anticorruzione.it does support HTTPS in the link https:// www.anticorruzione.it/portal/public/classic/Servizi/ServiziOnli…

Thank you steph for your work at Tor!

https:// web.archive.org/web/20170519124723/http:// thirdestatenewsgroup.com/exclusive-a-look-inside-the-chat-room-the-deep-state-uses-to-fight-trump/

The possible existence of a subversive American “deep state” has captivated the attention of political observers and supporters of President Trump for months, and for the first time, evidence has allegedly surfaced that casts a light on the shadowy operations of a group many claim is working to bring down the Presidency.

This information comes as President Trump is battling his worst week in Washington so far. In the past seven days, a constant stream of leaks and unsourced stories have sent the Trump White House into a tail-spin, and calls for his impeachment have grown.

On Wednesday night, just hours after the Dept. of Justice appointed a Special Prosecutor to handle the Trump/Russia probe, a series of screenshots began spreading around the Dark Web, a colloquial term for the portion of the Internet that is unlisted in search engines and requires special encrypted software to access. The Dark Web is known as the “Internet home” to those who wish to communicate anonymously and hacker groups like Anonymous.

An unidentified user going by “FreshCamel” posted on several Dark Web message boards Wednesday evening asking other users to help him make sense of communications he had intercepted on a messaging platform called Gliph, a secure messaging service that uses end-to-end encryption to prevent communications from being tracked back to those who sent them.

This individual did not provide much context regarding the source of these communications, but American users quickly put the pieces together.

On initial inspection, the screenshots, which are printed in their entirety below, appear to be taken from a short, highly-coded conversation held between approximately 5 individuals in the United States intelligence community on Wednesday, May 17th from 2:31 pm to 3:15 pm.

These screenshots show a 45 minute chat on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 17. From 2:31 pm to 3:15 pm, 5 separate users sent a total of 20 messages. “FreshCamel” confirmed that there were a total of 13 users “present” in the chat room, but the users known as “Severus,” “Roger,” “Huck,” “Juules,” and “Dooku” are those who consistently speak the most in these daily chats.

… okay, so it's a fictional character: EMPEROR PALPATINE from the Star Wars saga.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away:

Frightening similarities below the fold…

Senator Palpatine represented the planet Naboo. However, he secretly was a "Sith lord" who sought to take over the galaxy.

He did this in the following manner:

Work with factions behind the scenes to orchestrate a blockade and invasion of his OWN planet, so that the current Supreme Chancellor would be overthrown. He would then run as replacement and win on the sympathy vote.

Encourage a "separatist" movement, along with his then-apprentice (Darth Tyranus) to start a war vs. the Republic, thus forcing Senate to authorize a "clone" army to fight the war.

With apprentice (eventually Darth Vader), use the clone army to kill all Jedi, thereby removing any possible challenges to his rule.

When Jedi are out of the picture, install himself as "Emperor" to provide "security" for all planets in the former Republic. Apprentice (Darth Vader) functions as his powerful "fist" to enforce conformity.

Is eventually defeated by apprentice's son (Luke Skywalker) who refuses to join the "dark side."

Now let's consider Hillary:

Hatch a plan with then-president (& political partner) Bill Clinton to run for president. Runs for Senate to give her a good launching point.

During term in senate, chooses to support Iraq War to appear hawkish and "centrist," in anticipation of eventual presidential run.

Announces run in 2007, assuming little to no opposition. Crafts "shock & awe" campaign that should be concluded by Super Tuesday. Dispatches political partner/husband to aid her in this.

Unexpected young candidate (Obama) surprises her with several primary/caucus wins. Hillary responds with ads to scare voters, arguing only her "experience" can provide "security" for them & their families. She is also caught in a series of lies in her attempt to convince voters of her superior electability & experience.

Is finally defeated (knock wood) by young Obama, who refuses to accept lobbyist money or cast votes based purely on his plan to run for presidency.

Hillary 'Palpatine'

This was mainly for fun (yes, I'm a geek), but I found the similarities quite striking.
