Those types have to stay consistent with their echo chamber, they can't allow themselves to be proven wrong. It's easier to block than to open their minds to change. Changing their minds would be too embarrassing for them, too much damage to their egos for having been wrong. It's better to catch those leaning toward the middle than the left "extremists". Also, the Socratic method, questions questions questions. Cold hard facts scare away the weak, questions though, make even the weakest of minds think, even if only for a second or two at a time.
