The "amnesty" sham:
Let's say I want to give amnesty to a bank robber who kidnapped a clerk during the robbery. The generally accepted definition of "amnesty" would require that he release the hostage and return any money he has remaining from what he robbed from the bank. Absent those requirements, you can't properly call what I'm in favour of as "amnesty". If he gets to keep the loot and still have the teller locked in his basement, what I want is not "amnesty" but rather a bank robbing and kidnapping licence. Similarly, what Reagan granted illegals and what's being proposed for them to this day is not "amnesty" but rather an invasion licence.
