Double Suicide Blasts Rock Syria's Idlib Leaving 15 Dead - Reports

On 16 February, the Russian Defence Ministry's Centre for Reconciliation in Syria said that terrorists from the Idilb de-escalation zone had attacked Tall-Salhab and Kibriya in Hama Province as well as the Hara settlement in Aleppo over the past day.

At least 15 died and 30 were wounded as a result of a double suicide attack in Syria's Idlib, the Turkish NTV broadcaster reported citing local sources.

Two blasts took place in the city centre and preliminary reports indicate that they were caused by the detonation of two cars loaded with explosives, according to NTV.

IHRC: US involved in smuggling terrorists from Syria to Africa

Beirut, SANA – Commissioner of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in the Middle East Haitham Abu Said affirmed the US’s involvement in smuggling and transporting terrorists from Raqqa countryside and others areas in northern Syria to countries in Africa , in collaboration with the Turkish regime’s army.

After 7 decades, Woodland Navy man, Pearl Harbor casualty returns home, laid to rest

A line of leather-clad motorcyclists stood at attention in front of the Vancouver Funeral Chapel Wednesday morning bearing American flags and saluting. The Patriot Guard Riders were a welcoming committee, of sorts, for Navy musician second class Francis E. Dick of Woodland.

It’s the first time Dick had been back in Washington since joining the crew of the USS Oklahoma in 1940.

“His mother hung on until the age of 99 waiting and hoping for something like this, so it’s really something to have him home,” said Dorothy Fulbright of Longview, Dick’s first cousin.

Fulbright was 6 when Dick and 428 other sailors and Marines died aboard the USS Oklahoma during Japan’s 1941 attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor.

In the years immediately after the attack, only 41 crew members were identified and buried in marked graves. The remaining crew, including Dick and three other Cowlitz County men, were buried as unknowns at a national cemetery in Honolulu.

DAKAR (Reuters) - Senegal, the most stable democracy in West Africa, is preparing for an election on Sunday with President Macky Sall facing off against four other candidates.

Sall is widely expected to win a second term, after the country's two best-known opposition figures were barred from running because of corruption allegations, in moves critics said represented a worrying crackdown on dissent.

Below is a look at the five candidates competing in the Feb. 24 ballot:

THE INCUMBENT: MACKY SALL

Favorite to win the upcoming vote, the Senegalese president first came to power in 2012, after beating former president and mentor Abdoulaye Wade in the second round.

Sall, 57, started in politics as a member of Wade's Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) and served as his prime minister between 2004 and 2007. Internal disputes led Sall to split with Wade in 2008 and form his own party, Alliance for the Republic (APR).

As president, Sall launched an ambitious development and reform program aimed at transforming Senegal into an emerging economy by 2035. The plan includes an array of big ticket infrastructure projects, including a rail project, power generation and a futuristic new city on the outskirts of Dakar.

But the barring of his main rivals, Khalifa Sall, who is in jail for corruption, and Karim Wade, son of the former president, also previously jailed for graft, has raised eyebrows among voters. Heavy-handed crackdowns by security forces on some protests have also prompted accusations that President Sall has an authoritarian streak.

Jim Acosta Makes Disgusting Comment About Children of Angel Moms, Trump Fires Back

CNN reporter Jim Acosta referred to the deceased children of Angel Moms as having been “allegedly killed by undocumented immigrants.”

The reprehensible comment came as the mothers, who were attending Trump’s speech announcing a national emergency declaration at the border, appeared holding pictures of the children they had lost at the hands of illegal immigrants.

“We believe those are some of the Angel Moms that the president has talked so much about out on the campaign trail, at rallies and so on,” Acosta reported.

“These are parents of victims who were allegedly killed by undocumented immigrants,” he added. “The president likes to point to these folks who have been through some terrible experiences as evidence a wall is needed down at the border.”

Twitter Censoring Conservatives is Worse Than it Appears

Big tech censoring conservatives have become a regular occurrence. Sometimes the victims are only temporarily banned, other times they are permanently banned and unable to return. Twitter seems to be the worst lately, always in the news for banning some prominent conservative. Many people shrug it off, claiming Twitter has become a hotbed of leftism, not worth their time.

But can it really be dismissed that lightly? Twitter offers something that Facebook and the other tech giants don’t quite have — an easy, free way to become famous and communicate with other famous people. Anyone can build up followers for free by following others who then follow you back. It is possible to accumulate hundreds of thousands of followers this way. Once well known, the odds increase that famous people will retweet you and interact with you. Twitter has made fame — and influence — easily available to the common man.

Amy Klobuchar shoots herself in the foot with comments on the Aurora shooting

Only a week after launching her presidential campaign decrying global warming during a snowstorm in Minneapolis, the woman who wants to claim the mantle of a "moderate" Democrat has beclowned herself with a nonsensical statement. Even worse, as a veteran prosecutor — county attorney (D.A.) in the most populous county in Minnesota, responsible for all criminal prosecution — she missed a point squarely within her area of purported professional competence.

The Hill posted a video to Twitter of her campaigning in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (friendly territory not too far from the Minnesota border), claiming that the mass shooting in Aurora, Illinois shows that "It is time to put sensible gun control legislation in place."

PARIS (AP) — A French judge has refused to block the release this week in French cinemas of a movie based on a Catholic sex scandal.

French director Francois Ozon's film "Grace a Dieu" ("By the Grace of God") won the Berlin Film Festival's jury grand prize on Saturday. The movie portrays French priest Bernard Preynat, who has been accused of molesting dozens of boys during the 1980s and '90s.

Preynat's lawyers say the picture depicted allegations against their client as facts and should be blocked because it does not respect the presumption of innocence. Preynat is now facing charges.

Lawyer Emmanuel Mercinier told The Associated Press the judge ruled Monday that messages in the film noting that people are presumed innocent until proven guilty were enough.

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in a speech during his meeting with heads of local councils from all provinces on Monday, said that “Turkey’s President Erdogan , is a Muslim Brotherhood fanatic and a small-time U.S. tool.”

“Erdogan is trying to appear as a mover and shaker, he sometimes angers, sometimes revolts and threatens, and recently began to run out of patience, this is a big problem in fact.”

Turkey has been working to further its own strategic interests, delicately balancing between the U.S and Russian power bases. Its own role in the Syrian war has been nefarious, and has vacillated on any number of strategic positions, confusing analysts and experts around the world and across the political spectrum.

President Assad, however, is clear about Erdogan’s aim regarding the ‘safe zones’, even if Turkey’s role has otherwise been nuanced.
