From a political standing, POTUS has to be seen to do something, and seen to be all for it. If he does nothing he will lose a good deal of his approval rating and, likely votes for not only himself but for other repubs in upcoming elections. If he doesn't give a little on this, in the face of all the current media persuasion of the masses, we may all lose out.

He either needs to play the game and bend a little to maintain votes, or we could lose his positioning altogether and end up with the Dems running the show.

Does that make sense from a political perspective?

I have to disagree, anon. I think we are a necessary element in the story line. We most certainly need that 'outrage' to pull it off.
