Iron Dome System Could Be Deployed At US Base In Syria’s Al-Tanf: Israel Media

In early February, the Pentagon revealed that it was planning to obtain a limited number of Iron Dome missile defense systems “to fill its short-term need for an interim Indirect Fire Protection Capability”. According to Department of Defense spokesman Eric Pahon, the US Army would “assess and experiment” with the system to protect its troops from a “variety of indirect fire threats and aerial threats”.

Neither Pahon, nor the Iron Dome manufacturer specified the exact number of systems that the US is planning to buy, or the value of the future contract. No details regarind how the US was going to use the obtained short-range system were also revaled.

However, recently, Israeli media outlets have started spreading speculations that the US may use the obtained system in Syria. According to nziv.net, the US is going to deploy the obtained system at its military base in the southeastern Syrian area of al-Tanf. This base was set up to control one of the key highways linking Syria, Iraq and Iran and will not likely be removed even despite the formal withdrawal of US troops. Even if US forces are withdrawn from this part of Syria, they will still be deployed on the Iraqi side of the border.

Do You Believe In The Deep State Now?

The revelation that top Justice officials considered unseating Trump should answer that question for good…

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

That’s a natural reaction to the revelation of Andrew G. McCabe, the former deputy FBI director, that top Justice Department officials, alarmed by Donald Trump’s firing of former Bureau director James Comey, explored a plan to invoke the 25th Amendment and kick the duly elected president out of office.

According to New York Times reporters Adam Goldman and Matthew Haag, McCabe made the statement in an NBC 60 Minutes interview to be aired on Sunday. He also reportedly said that McCabe wanted the so-called Russia collusion investigation to go after Trump for obstructing justice in firing Comey and for any instances they could turn up of his working in behalf of Russia.

The idea of invoking the 25th Amendment was discussed, it seems, at two meetings on May 16, 2017. According to McCabe, top law enforcement officials pondered how they might recruit Vice President Pence and a majority of cabinet members to declare in writing, to the Senate’s president pro tempore and the House speaker, that the president was “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” That would be enough, under the 25th Amendment, to install the vice president as acting president, pushing aside Trump.

But to understand what kind of constitutional crisis this would unleash and the precedent it would set, it’s necessary to ponder the rest of this section of the 25th Amendment. The text prescribes that, if the president, after being removed, transmits to the same congressional figures that he is indeed capable of discharging his duties, he shall once again be president after four days. But if the vice president and the cabinet majority reiterate their declaration within those four days that the guy can’t govern, Congress is charged with deciding the issue. It then takes a two-thirds vote of both houses to keep the president removed, which would have to be done within 21 days, during which time the elected president would be sidelined and the vice president would govern. If Congress can’t muster the two-thirds majority within the prescribed time period, the president “shall resume the powers and duties of his office.”

It’s almost impossible to contemplate the political conflagration that would ensue under this plan. Citizens would watch those in Washington struggle with the monumental question of the fate of their elected leader under an initiative that had never before been invoked, or even considered, in such circumstances. Debates would flare up over whether this comported with the original intent of the amendment; whether it was crafted to deal with physical or mental “incapacitation,” as opposed to controversial actions or unsubstantiated allegations or even erratic decision making; whether such an action, if established as precedent, would destabilize the American republic for all time; and whether unelected bureaucrats should arrogate to themselves the power to set in motion the downfall of a president, circumventing the impeachment language of the Constitution.

Ex-Aussie envoy: Failure to extradite accused pedophile hurts Israel ties

Sharma, in an interview from Sydney with The Jerusalem Post, said that a failure to extradite Leifer is something “that would alienate people who naturally defend and are supportive of Israel. This is not about the Palestinian issue or the peace process, but something that people see as a case of justice.”

Sharma’s comments came the same day the Jerusalem District Court ruled that Leifer must remain in jail until the end of her legal proceedings, and that another psychiatric assessment on her needs to be conducted. Deputy Health Minister MK Yaakov Litzman was questioned last week on suspicion of obstructing justice by working to obtain a false psychiatric medical evaluation to prevent her extraction on the ground that she is mentally unfit.

Idlib Province Syria: Infested with US-Supported Terrorists

On the ides of March a few weeks from now, US aggression in Syria to gain another imperial trophy will enter its 9th year – with no prospect for resolution.

Mass slaughter and destruction continue daily by Pentagon-led terror-bombing and US supported terrorists.

They’re armed with Western and Israeli heavy weapons and munitions, supplied them cross-border from Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Israel, along with the Pentagon airlifting them in.

Washington’s best laid plans haven’t worked out as scripted because of Russia’s September 2015 intervention to combat US-supported terrorists, notably ISIS and al-Nusra.

By no means does this suggest that peace and stability will be restored to the country any time soon. Reality on the ground is polar opposite.

Begun in 2012, Russian-led diplomatic efforts in Geneva, Astana and Sochi achieved no major breakthroughs.

Afghanistan and Yemen are co-prototypes of ongoing US wars – both begun in October 2001 weeks apart, continuing endlessly with no prospects for resolution any time in the short or intermediate term – why I call them forever wars.

The same goes for Iraq and Libya. Formal conflict ended. Violence and chaos continue endlessly, both countries cauldrons of turmoil, mass impoverishment, environmental degradation, and human misery.

It’s the legacy of all post-9/11 US wars, a pretext for spending countless trillions of dollars on militarism and warmaking, accounting for the large majority of US discretionary spending at the expense of vital social programs, the nation’s deteriorating infrastructure, and other homeland needs.

Wall Street and the military, industrial, security, media complex demand what’s going on. Republicans and undemocratic Dems salute and obey dark forces running the country – the behind the scenes power structure, the nation’s deep state, politicians serving its interests exclusively.

Along with 18 or more Pentagon bases in northern and southern Syria, and Turkish wannabe sultan Erdogan’s aim to annex Syrian territory bordering his country, Idlib province remains the last terrorist stronghold.

The US, NATO, Turkey, the Saudis, Israel, the UAE and Jordan support thousands of heavily armed al-Nusra and other jihadists infesting the province.

Last September, Putin and Erdogan agreed on establishing a 15 – 20 km-wide demilitarized zone in Idlib along the Turkish border.

Texas border agents keep catching rapists, child molesters, and gang members, but Democrats don’t care

On Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector of Texas apprehended a Guatemalan illegally crossing into the U.S. He had a prior conviction in New Jersey for sexually assaulting a child.

That same day, agents said they caught a Salvadoran who turned out to be a member of the violent MS-13 gang. The next day, they caught another Guatemalan who was also with MS-13.

These are the sweet angels whom Democrats have shown absolutely no interest in stopping from flooding into the U.S.

We know that by “border security,” they mean free healthcare and babysitting. We’re never, ever supposed to acknowledge the steady, unabated stream of rapists, gangs, and drug smugglers making their way into the country from Central America.

Otherwise, this wouldn’t be the first time you’re hearing about:

— the apprehension Tuesday of a Honduran man revealed to be a member of the 18th Street gang;

— the 1,300 total aliens apprehended that same day, the highest number taken into custody in a single day in the Rio Grande Valley sector;

— the apprehension last week of a Salvadoran man with a previous child rape conviction in Washington state;

— the apprehension last week of a Mexican man with a previous conviction in Georgia for child molestation;

— the apprehension last week of a Honduran man with a record in North Carolina showing a conviction for "Indecent Liberties with Child”;

— and the apprehension last week of another Honduran male with a Florida record that identified him as a member of the violent MS-13 gang.

Note that this was the catch in just one specific part of the 2,000-mile-long border against Mexico. There’s no way of knowing who slipped by unnoticed while up to a dozen agents were busy offering hospitality to a Guatemalan mother and her seven children, all of whom were immediately granted legal protection because they claimed asylum. That’s literally a scene I saw with my own eyes when I toured the Rio Grande Valley sector in January.

This is what’s pouring into the U.S. as Democrats in Congress refuse to take any meaningful step toward securing the border, which, as any border agent will tell you, requires more border walls.

President Trump just had to declare a national emergency in order to cobble up money to build more border barrier. Then Democrats will do what they always do, tie it up in court.

At what point are we allowed to conclude that they really don't care about border security?

Hezbollah in S. America: Mike Pompeo’s Big Lie

It’s late 2002, early 2003 again. This time, instead of the evil (former CIA asset) Saddam Hussein posing a dire threat to America, it’s Iran and Hezbollah stationed in Venezuela.

Throw in the perennial enemy of a post-colonial Caribbean, Castro’s Cuba, and we have the makings for yet another military intervention on our hands, according to Sec. State Pompeo.

There is little evidence of any hanky panky vis-à-vis Hezbollah in Venezuela. If there is indeed a Hezbollah presence in Caracas or anywhere else in South America, this would be quite natural given the practice of international diplomacy. Hezbollah is part of the Lebanese government and representative of Shia Muslims in Lebanon. Like hundreds of other political parties and governments, it has a military or paramilitary component.

But that’s not what we see in the West. Instead, for us—thanks to decades of propaganda, both American and Israeli—Hezbollah is a ruthless terrorist group on par with ISIS and directed by venal mullahs in Iran.

Fact is, if Israel had not invaded and occupied Southern Lebanon, Hezbollah probably wouldn’t exist. It came together as a resistance group against and illegal a brutal occupation. If not for Hezbollah, the IDF would have rolled right over the south of Lebanon in 2006. The all-powerful IDF lost that conflict, and it will lose the next one.

Pompeo’s claim America is at risk due Hezbollah’s presence or lack thereof has a familiar ring. It’s the same load of neocon manure dumped on the American people back in 2003. Americans were still reeling from the 9/11 attacks and this gave the neocons the opportunity to flatten Iraq.

Few corporate mockingbirds will tell you Pompeo is a liar and there will not be Hezbollah pickup trucks crossing the Rio Grande (a sort of feed-loop on Reagan’s Sandinista caravan reaching America to kill Americans and impose a godless communism on the survivors).

Pompeo and his clueless boss—captivated by his son-in-law and the Israelis—are pulling a redux, this time with Iran and the added misadventure of Venezuela thrown in for good (neoliberal) measure.

British Bombing in Syria Reaches Record High

Britain carried out a record number of air strikes in Syria during the last month of 2018, despite mounting concerns over civilian casualties and costs.

New data obtained by research group Drone Wars has “laid bare” the scale of British bombing in the region.

The group found that Britain dropped 75 bombs over Syria in December, as planes and drones stepped up their attack on the last Isis stronghold.

It was the most intense month of aerial bombardment last year, bringing the annual total to 464 munitions from 225 separate raids.

And while the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has published the number of air strikes, it is much more secretive about civilian casualties, causing concern about who was caught in the crossfire.

As well as local Syrians, kidnapped British journalist John Cantile may also be among those at risk from air strikes.

The war photographer was snatched by Isis terrorists in 2012 and presumed dead, but last week Security Minister Ben Wallace insisted he was still alive.

Mr Cantile’s supporters said on Twitter that they “hope and pray that this turns out to be true.”

Campaign group Stop the War said the new data “marks an astonishing increase in strikes in Syria.”

Its convener, Lindsey German, said:

“These were supposedly against Isis, which all sides agree has been much weakened in recent months.

“The concern must be that many casualties from these strikes will be civilians.

“There is neither monitoring of death and injury by the Ministry of Defence, nor is there any coverage of these attacks by media in this country.

“Parliament voted for these interventions but doesn’t bother to discuss or assess the consequences.”

The new data, obtained through freedom of information requests by Drone Wars, shows that Britain has fired over 4,100 missiles and bombs in a total of 1,925 strikes against Isis in Iraq and Syria from 2014-2018, costing over £300 million.

However the MoD has only acknowledged one civilian casualty throughout the entire campaign.

Reacting to the latest figures, Ms German said:

“In a time of austerity we are spending millions on these strikes. Time to stop.”

Analysis by Drone Wars shows a quarter of these strikes were conducted by Reaper drones.

The weapons dropped on Syria and Iraq include the so-called “Hellfire” and “Brimstone” missiles.

Chris Cole from Drone Wars said:

“Although Isis has been virtually defeated as a military force in Iraq and Syria, with its territory reduced to a few square miles in the Euphrates Valley, UK ministers and defence officials insist that UK strikes will continue until the group is absolutely and totally defeated.

“This [is] though other nations are withdrawing their forces and senior UK commanders acknowledge that Isis is no longer a credible military force.”

An MoD spokesperson said:

“We use whichever asset meets the operational requirement, that can be either manned fast jets such as Typhoon, or remotely piloted aircraft such as Reaper.”

Researchers warn these toxins can affect brain development and lead to obesity and elevated cancer risk

Fire-resistant foam used in sofas and vinyl flooring are poisoning children, a study warned.

Kids who live in public housing, where those materials are commonplace, have toxin levels in their blood and urine up to 15 times higher than those who aren't exposed.

Researchers warn this is yet another reason driving health disparities between the wealthy and poor: flame retardant chemicals (known as PBDEs) are linked to neurodevelopmental delays, obesity, endocrine and thyroid disruption, cancer and other diseases.

Dr Heather Stapleton of Duke University, who presented here findings at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference this week, warned that despite attempts to curb these chemicals, they are still pervasive.

What's more, few studies have investigated how or whether these chemicals seep into the bloodstreams of children who are exposed to them.

'There are concerns that these chemicals could affect the developing brain,' Dr Stapleton said.

Bolton pledges support for India's 'heavy price' response

US National Security Adviser John Bolton has expressed Washington's support for New Delhi after India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed a strong response to those behind a recent deadly car bomb attack in Kashmir.

In a telephone conversation with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, Bolton said the Trump administration supports New Delhi’s right to self-defense against cross-border terrorism, Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for Thursday’s deadly car bomb attack, which killed at least 44 Indian paramilitary troops in Kashmir.

India accused Pakistan of harboring militants behind the Thursday’s attack, which was the deadliest bombing in three decades of bloodshed in Indian-controlled Kashmir. India says it has incontrovertible evidence of Pakistan’s involvement, a charge Islamabad dismisses.

The Indian ministry said Bolton and Doval “vowed to work together to ensure that Pakistan cease to be a safe haven for JeM and terrorist groups that target India, the US and others in the region.”

"They resolved to hold Pakistan to account for its obligations under UN resolutions,” said the statement.

Modi said on Friday that “the terrorist groups and their masters” will have to “pay a heavy price,” over the Kashmir bombing.

Pakistan had condemned the attack and denied any involvement.

In an earlier call on Islamabad US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said that Pakistan “must not provide safe haven for terrorists to threaten international security.”

The White House also sent a message to Islamabad calling for an immediate end to its “support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operating on its soil, whose only goal is to sow chaos, violence, and terror in the region”

Record number of reports criticizing Israel said to be released by UN next month

Watchdog group expects UNHRC to publish findings of investigation into Gaza clashes, allege human rights violations in the Golan Heights

The United Nations Humans Rights Council is expected to release a series of reports critical of Israel next month, including one reportedly accusing the military of war crimes over its response to violent protests by Palestinians on the Gaza border.

According to the pro-Israel watchdog group UN Watch, other reports are set to accuse Israel of alleged human rights violations in the Golan Heights, which it captured from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War war, and in territories claimed by the Palestinians for a future state, Channel 12 news reported Thursday.

The main focus of the meeting will likely be the findings of an investigation that the UNHRC approved in May into Israeli troops’ killings of Palestinians in riots along the security fence with the Gaza Strip.

You didn’t really think they’d go away, did you?

The upending of the political landscape by the Trump revolution has affected every political grouping and rearranged our politics in ways that are still revealing themselves. His populist America First views on foreign policy and international trade have split the GOP, opened up growing divisions among the Democrats, and even disrupted the ideological certitude of the libertarians.

There is one ideological group whose entire trajectory and partisan political allegiance has done a complete turnaround, and that is the neoconservatives.

Originating as a split from the Trotskyite movement, these extreme leftists moved from one end of the political spectrum, over the course of several years, to the other. Motivated by their hatred of Stalin and their abandonment of the old Communist Party, the neocons – as they came to be known – became the most vocally anti-Soviet faction and advocate of a military confrontation with Russia. Few in numbers but strategically placed, they constituted the staff of Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson and agitated constantly for increased military spending. While still ostensibly men of the left, they gradually abandoned the characteristic tics and attitudes of that tribe and focused on what they really cared about: foreign policy, and their obsession with destroying their old enemy, the Soviet Union.

They wormed their way into the Reagan administration and started taking over the major institutions of the conservative movement. When the Soviet Union began to fall apart, they declared it wasn’t happening, that the whole thing was a trap and that Reagan was a fool or a traitor (possibly both) for negotiating with Gorbachev.

The neocons’ glory days came in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when they seized control of the Bush administration’s foreign policy, forged phony “evidence” of Iraq’s “weapons of mass destruction,” and started a series of wars in the Middle East. Iraq was just the beginning.

Indeed, the push for war in the Middle East on Israel’s behalf continues to this day. And it’s the same neocons who told us the Iraqis would welcome us as liberators.

Except it isn’t the same neocons in the sense that Bill Kristol, Max Boot, and the Weekly Standard crowd have taken on a completely new coloration: as the aspiring leaders of the NeverTrump movement, they are MSNBC regulars whose rhetoric is indistinguishable from the most conventional Clintonite. In symbolic acknowledgment of this ideological about-face, they ditched the Weekly Standard (or, rather, the billionaire backing fled). In any case, they were back on the streets almost immediately, with “The Bulwark,” which runs articles like “The President is Hallucinating and I Think We Should Be Concerned.”

All of this has come to pass just as I predicted it would way back in 1999.
