Multiple school, hospital lockdowns lifted in Atlantic, Cumberland counties following threats

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A suspect is in custody following a report of gunfire Thursday that set off lockdowns at several schools. Pilgrim Academy in Galloway Township, Absegami High School, Egg Harbor City schools, Cedar Creek High School and Stockton University all issued a "shelter in place" order.

A lockdown means no one enter or leaves a school until police consider it safe.

At 9:30 a.m. Thursday, township police responded to reports of gunshots outside Pilgrim Academy. Their investigation determined a nearby resident had discharged several shots in a wooded area near the school.

Michael Maggi, 57, was arrested without incident and numerous firearms and ammunition were recovered at his residence, police said. He was charged with risking widespread injury, disorderly conduct and harassment and taken to the Atlantic County jail.

Chief Donna Higbee said the charges are not hunting-related.

44 arrested in massive Georgia opioid bust

Forty-four people were arrested Thursday as part of a huge metro Atlanta opioid ring led by a nationally-known pathologist who authorities say traded prescription drugs for sex.

Dr. Joe Burton was originally charged last year. The additional charges were announced at a news conference Thursday by U.S. Attorney BJay Pak in Atlanta.

Burton once served as medical examiner for Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Clayton, Douglas, Paulding and Rockdale counties. He worked on some of the region’s biggest cases conducting what he once estimated were more than 10,000 autopsies.

Two Dane County judges have ruled that the state Department of Corrections cannot deduct more than 25 percent of inmates’ trust funds, as it has been doing to cover restitution, court surcharges and other fees.

However, a prisoner rights activist says that the state continues deducting a higher percentage of money from accounts despite the rulings.

In 2015, the state Legislature passed Act 355, defining a garnishment structure for the Department of Corrections to follow in docking inmates’ accounts.

The trust accounts hold the money that inmates earn doing prison work — between 5 cents and $1.60 an hour — or gifts deposited by family and friends. Inmates use the money to buy food, including items for special diets, and incidentals like deodorant, stamps and clothing.

As Isthmus reported in February 2017, several inmates have complained about 50 percent or more of their trust accounts being deducted by the state.

Some inmates have been fighting the deductions. Last summer, Marcus Kerby, an inmate at Fox River, filed a suit against the DOC.

SAO PAULO/NEW YORK - Brazil's Industry Ministry on Thursday expressed "enormous concern" about the proposed US tariffs and underscored that Brazil may take "multilateral or bilateral" action to protect its interests.

The ministry said its steel industry was not a threat to the United States, noting that 80 percent of its steel exports are semi-finished products that serve as an important input for the American steel industry. The statement also noted that Brazil is the biggest importer of metallurgical coal from the United States.

Earlier on Thursday, US President Donald Trump said he would impose hefty tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to protect US producers, risking retaliation from major trade partners like China and Europe and helping trigger a large selloff on Wall Street.

Brazil is the second-largest source of steel imports into the United States after Canada, accounting for 13 percent of volume in 2017, according to US Commerce Department figures.

In the 21st century, the American political world revolves around a handful of key dates. But prior to 1933, March 4 was the biggest day on the calendar next to Election Day.

Andrew Jackson's 1829 inauguration

The significance of March 4 predates the Constitution. The Confederation Congress, which operated under the Articles of Confederation (our first Constitution) picked March 4, 1789, as the day it handed off power to the new constitutional government.

So in some ways, March 4 was the Constitution’s first day in business. The first Congress convened in New York City. It was about one month before George Washington was elected at the first president under the new Constitution.

The new Congress quickly took care of an important task, when James Madison introduced the first draft Bill of Rights for consideration by its members.

The DHS will be submitting a final report to the WH/DOJ/other state and local agencies outlining our findings as early as March [ ], 2018. While this report only encompasses a sampling of twenty-two (22) counties across the U.S., it is strongly suggested, based on the evidence provided, that a mandated countrywide investigation begin under the recommended US50-EIC guidelines as set forth in Section VII of the final report. Furthermore, based on our immediate findings, we recommend the adoption of 8(E)(F)(G)(H) be made immediately to combat sources & methods currently being deployed to …………………………..

I'm filling in the blank here on an old Q post…

MARCH 4th. March 4th.

March forth…to a new world and a new day

The first session of the U.S. Congress is held in New York City as the U.S. Constitution takes effect. … On June 21, 1788, New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the document, making it binding, and government under the U.S. Constitution was scheduled to begin on March 4, 1789.

I saw a couple posts about the HR story being a planet and TRUMP catching another leaker. Also heard another story on KUSHNER being a mole as well…I doubt that would be the case though.
