Do Supreme Court Justices have Secret Service Details?

official representatives of the United States when performing special missions abroad; and other individuals when designated by a Presidential executive order. A Justice of the Supreme Court would generally not get Secret Service protection except under one of the last two conditions.

To answer this we must Follow the Pen.

The original question is “Do the Justices of the Supreme Court receive protection from the Secret Service?”

The short answer is no.

And unlike most members of the federal judiciary, they do not receive protection from the United States Marshals Service either.

Their protection is provided by the Supreme Court Police, one of the smallest federal agencies.

The Supreme Court Police is lead by the Marshal of the United States Supreme Court. The duties of the Marshal are similar to the court officer aspects of the United States Marshal in any of the 94 United States judicial court districts. This said, This Marshal has no association with the United States Marshals Service. In the history of the position (created in 1867), there have been ten Marshals. By statute, the Marshal is appointed by the Supreme Court and serves at their discretion.

The force itself, currently numbering about 125, is responsible for security of the court building, its inhabitants, and it visitors. Additionally, they provide personal protection to the Justices at all times. In many ways, their mission, training, and authority is similar to that of the judicial security role of the United States Marshals Service. I would fully expect that a large number of the members of this force have been cross-deputized by the Marshals Service to increase their authority and jurisdiction.

No. The security arrangments for the justices are not made public, but generally the justices are protected by the Court’s own small security force while at the Court.

When traveling, my sense is that they travel like ordinary citizens without security unless requested (and I presume this would be U.S. Marshals). Justice Breyer was robbed at his vacation home a few years ago, and there was no security present. I have encountered Justice Thomas (Atlanta) and Justice Scalia (Raleigh) in public restaurants unaccompanied by security.

The justices maintain a low profile and are not generally well known figures. This is one of the reasons they have resisted televising Court arguments.

Whether or not Justice Ginsburg has an active protection detail, I think the Court Police/Marshal Service would be aware of Ginsburg's current health status, and therefore in the know about Ginsburgs life or death. Unless this Court Police/Marshal Service is compromised, then it is only reasonable to assume Ginsburg is alive.

The Mainstream Fake News is not helping the situation when they provide obvious falsely represented photographic works from previous periods as current material.

Certainly everyone has the question in mind, Where's Ruth? But, we don't need to go manufacture evidence, like MFN, to answer a question which simple logic alone, with a little time digging, could reveal.

Additionally, wouldn't Donald Trump be hot on the heals of the death of a Supreme Court Justice, even if hidden from the public, in order to get a vacated seat filled?

Additionally, the NSA would be quite capable of identifying Ginsburg's status via the myriad of technology people are surrounded with on a daily basis. Ginsburg woouldn't even need to own a cell phone or computer, the NSA could determine Ginsburg's status via one degree of separation, someone in proximity of Ginsburg with an enabled device.

The NSA could track Ginsburg's toilet paper purchases and determne whether Ginsburg is active or not.
