Fire kills at least 10 in Bangladesh capital, official says

DHAKA (Reuters) - A huge fire that broke out in a building in an old part of Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, killed at least 10 people, a fire service official said on Thursday, and the death toll could climb further.

The blaze broke out on Wednesday and spread to other nearby buildings. Fire fighters fought for more than five hours to bring it under control, although it was still burning early on Thursday.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Ali Ahmed Khan told reporters at least 10 people were killed.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire at the building in the centuries-old Chawkbazar area of Dhaka.

Bangladesh media reported earlier that at least three people had been killed and several others taken to hospital.

Building safety regulations are rarely followed in impoverished Bangladesh, where accidents kill hundreds every year.

The Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013 killed more than 1,100 garment workers.

Fla. seeks Space Command HQ

EGLIN AFB — A bipartisan group of Florida’s U.S. House members has joined Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in calling for headquarters of U.S. Space Command, likely to be part of the Space Force that President Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon to establish, to be located in Florida.

Eglin is involved in current Air Force space operations. The 20th Space Control Squadron, part of the 21st Space Wing based at Colorado’s Peterson Air Force Base, operates a massive radar array at Eglin, in addition to other space surveillance equipment elsewhere.

The squadron can find, track and target objects in Earth’s orbit, and has the capability to track an object the size of a basketball as far as 25,000 miles away. Its 250 military and civilian personnel operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Additionally, Eglin’s 96th Cyberspace Test Group, established in December 2017 as the only unit of its kind in the Air Force, has been involved in testing and evaluation of the Space Fence, a new radar installation in the Pacific Ocean’s Marshall Islands.

Democrats’ measure blocking Trump emergency will come Friday

Though the effort seems almost certain to ultimately fall short — perhaps to a Trump veto — the votes will let Democrats take a defiant stance against Trump that is sure to please liberal voters. They will also put some Republicans from swing districts and states in a difficult spot.

WASHINGTON — House Democrats will file a resolution Friday aimed at blocking the national emergency declaration that President Donald Trump has issued to help finance his wall along the Southwest border, teeing up a clash over billions of dollars, immigration policy and the Constitution’s separation of powers.

Though the effort seems almost certain to ultimately fall short — perhaps to a Trump veto — the votes will let Democrats take a defiant stance against Trump that is sure to please liberal voters. They will also put some Republicans from swing districts and states in a difficult spot.

U.S., Central America launch plan to crack down on people smugglers

SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - The United States and three Central American nations on Wednesday announced an effort to combat trafficking of people to the U.S.-Mexico border, days after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a national emergency, citing large-scale unlawful immigration.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen called immigration from the region a "humanitarian crisis" and said the regional security plan with El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras would secure the border and improve conditions in the countries.

The total number of people apprehended crossing illegally into the United States from the southwestern border is sharply down from a decade ago, but more families from Central America, citing poverty and violence, are making the journey, many seeking asylum.

Trump last week declared the situation at the border a "national emergency" to free up billions of dollars to fund a border wall, a decision that has been challenged in a lawsuit by 16 U.S. states and another by the American Civil Liberties Union.

In a statement, El Salvador's government said the new initiative was aimed at attacking the finances, logistics and communication platforms of people-trafficking networks.

Major Western Cities Sinking Into Hopeless, Homeless Dystopia

Sustainable Development is being implemented mostly in the West, where workers are displaced, priced increased, illegal immigrants abounding. SDG #1 is to ‘eliminate poverty everywhere’ but it is doing just the opposite. ⁃ TN Editor

Almost everyone that goes out to visit one of our major cities on the west coast has a similar reaction. Those that must live among the escalating decay are often numb to it, but most of those that are just in town for a visit are absolutely shocked by all of the trash, human defecation, crime and public drug use that they encounter.

Once upon a time, our beautiful western cities were the envy of the rest of the world, but now they serve as shining examples of America’s accelerating decline. The worst parts of our major western cities literally look like post-apocalyptic wastelands, and the hordes of zombified homeless people that live in those areas are too drugged-out to care.

The ironic thing is that these cities are not poor. In fact, San Francisco and Seattle are among the wealthiest cities in the entire nation. So if things are falling apart this dramatically now, how bad will things get when economic conditions really start to deteriorate?

Let’s start our discussion by looking at the rat epidemic in Los Angeles. Thanks to extremely poor public sanitation, rats are breeding like mad, and at this point they have even conquered Los Angeles City Hall…
