U.S.-backed Syrian forces fighting the Islamic State group in Syria handed over more than 150 Iraqi members of the group to Iraq, the first batch of several to come, an Iraqi security official said Thursday.

The official said the IS militants were handed over to the Iraqi side late Wednesday, and that they were now in a “safe place” and being investigated.

The Iraqi security official, who spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, said the SDF are holding more than 20,000 Iraqis suspected of IS membership in prisons in northern Syria, adding that they will be transferred back home in batches.

Democrats in Congress may seek to subpoena Special Counsel Robert Mueller or the results of his Russia probe if the results – expected to be submitted to the Justice Department as early as next week – aren’t publicly released.

“The public will feel rightly that there is a coverup” if details are withheld, Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, told CNN Thursday.

Blumenthal, who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he hopes the Republican-led panel would be among the congressional committees that seek to compel the release of any details that aren’t forthcoming. The subpoenas could seek the full report or even Mueller himself. “A Senate or House committee can subpoena anyone,” he said.

No, to beat Omar, someone who is obviously and identifiably a minority will need to go up against her. Possibly someone like Minneapolis City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins.

Jenkins is not just a transgender African-American woman; she is the first transgender African-American woman ever elected in America. She is obviously liberal. She also happens to hold an office that would be a great launching point for a congressional run. She won her election with 70 percent of the vote.

And Jenkins is now, too, the subject of a lot of chatter in Minnesota—much of it centering on whether she might, or might not, be willing to take on Omar. As of this writing, she hasn’t given any indicator. But don’t be surprised to see a recruitment effort kick off, even if right now it seems pie-in-the-sky and mostly driven by Minnesotans on the right.

WTF- the state of politics today
